After about 2 weeks of ****py weather we finally got a break. Good sized crowd made the 80 mi trip down from Spokane in several groups. The Palouse country of Eastern Wash has some of the best Hot Rod driving roads anywhere. Rolling hill country with green wheatfields in the spring. Smooth two lanes with sweepimg curves following the natural terain. Here are some rigs that caught my eye. A just right '34 coupe... Nice work on the Ford powered coupster. ..Smallblock motored '50's Austin Healy really hauls *** .... Flathead RPU with Columbia rear is old build..... Local build Merc is coming along nice..... Two '40's that get driven A LOT. There were many hambers there, probably have more pictures.
And a few more Cool old farm town from turn of century. Nailhead with 8 volt battery was in a really nice stock old '55 Buick Special 2dr hard top. I've always liked this Chopped 53 Dodge hardtop with Chry Hemi, It just keeps progressing some every year. '27 roadster is how you get the "other half" invoved. Primered steel coupe nailed the typical old Hot Rod look perfect. Gotta love the solid old Rambler American turned Sedan Delivery.
Old hotel turned into antique store. The "downtown area" has 4 or 5 of these shops. Whole of downtown is blocked off for show. Brings lots of business and the locals always seem real happy about it. Gas stop on way home across from an old ex Chevy dealership in Oaksdale WA. Only casualty of the trip was the unlucky black A coupe with a broken rear radius rod on the way down, and a faulty ignition switch here. Radius rod problem welded by the Show Host Club in the middle of Main St. with arc box with a LONG cord. Good reliability for a bunch of cars coming out of winter hibernation.
And finally back in Spokane we all stopped at "The Swamp Tavern Hot Rod Party" in time to catch the live entertainment. Rock Band the Gorrilla, Chicken & Rabbit. The Gorrilla was missing today. Last time I saw these guys play they arrived on a Vespa scooter with a sidecar, skidded on the gravel and crashed in a pile of furry animals. I think the've given up on that. I bailed out early today ,someone else will probably cover this one. Myself I'll take these kind of deals over Good Guys anyday.
I was there! That old English ford was bad ***. I also really liked the one with the studebaker caps. I dont remember the year. Nice photos. I'll try to get my photos up soon.
Didn't give credit to The Knuckle S****ers who put on this annual show. A really smooth deal in cool old town.
Oldebob, Thanks for the pics, It was good to talk with you yesturday(I was quizing you on the hex key stuck in your intake) good to see your on the hamb too. The Knuckle s****ers pulled off anouther great show and Mark told me he turned in all of his good carma credits for another day of great weather(Rained like crazy friday, sun burn at the show saturday, and a nice day for a duck today, somehow they threaded the needle) They had a good band, and all of the palouse buisinesses do a great job of making everyone feel welcome, really a cool town!!
Feedback like this is what makes the show worth doing. Thanks everybody for adding to the show; and thanks to all of the Hambers that posted and met to come over in groups. With the threat of "weather" and the scheduling conflict with another great show in Spokane (that I would have loved to go to!) we still managed to maintain about the same number of cars as the previous year (near 100). The city of Palouse enjoys the show as well; and we have been given a little more space; we should be able to fit near 150 in the future.
J-Lopy I made it to Des Moines, Iowa when I got a call telling me my '63 Bird caught fire back home so I turned around....BUMMER! I'll get there sooner or later!
Great show, Great clubs, and great cars. Top notch show! But with 5 Silhouette cars there, not one made it in the thread yet.where is our damned club historian? Lol.
I hear about your thunder(fire)bird problem. That's rough...but I hear that you were 600 miles into the trip when that happened. Think of it this way, if you'd started from the boise area...that would be round trip before you had a problem...you could have been right along with us. Sorry, i was just *****ing about not being do***ented. Haha. Sarah god some pics though, we'll make sure she posts them.
This year's show is looking to be bigger and better than ever. We even have roller derby girls parkin' cars and providing entertainment! Should definitely be worth the trip.
