accel dist.

Hello guy's I just picked up a accel #51100S distributor at a swap meet today, it's never been used and I paid $45 for it..are these any good? any feedback would be great. Im currently using a stock HEI with a pertronix upgrade kit, will I need a box? it has no va***e advance. I want to keep it realiable..am I better off with the HEI? 36 chevy 5 window, 400 sbc

 

I ran an accel dist in my roadster w/ 350 & 3-2s and it worked great....No vac advance, no problem...dual points and never missed a lick....As far as HEI; it is my belief that HEI gives a better spark...hotter, but isn't your traditional look if that is a concern and it also takes more firewall room as it's bigger than the accel....No you don't need a box or anything special to run the accel.. keep the HEI where it is and build another car around your new dist,,,,GOOD ENOUGH EXCUSE, huh ? !!

 

For the street you are much better off with Vac advance! Tell us more about the Dist is it electronic, Points or what
