Maybe you can convince the guy to Greyhound one to ya! Hell, if he asks, I'd even be willing to cart one to the station here in Kansas City to help y'all out if you work something out.

I thought it looked like an A-833 too, but the side cover looks different. Still, those mounts are awfully familiar...

Number 1 looks like an English Ford dagenham 4sp. found in early 70 Mercury Capris. Not totally sure because it has been 30+ years since I last saw one.

Yes, I do. Seriously, the torque tube Buick transmissions with the six bolt top covers may be of interest to early rodders if they haven't been full of water and destroyed. They can be combined with parts from '36-'38 floor shift transmissions, and/or the mainshaft and open tailstock from the '51-'63 Olds three speeds pictured to make close ratio 3 speeds with beefy internals that rival the Cad/LaSalle transmissions for strength.

That may be exactly what the old huy he got 'em from was keeping them for. I mean, the guy had 'em in a shop for years. Stored indoors, etc and out of the rain/weather.

That may well be the key - the missing link in the story as to why they were kept all this time.

If that one's a Dagenham, it must be a later style than the Dagenhams that were an option in early '60s six cylinder Falcons, Comets, and Mustangs; they had a conventional looking shifter with three external shift rods and arms.

That's because it's not an A-833. 833's are four speeds. That three speed is either a A-230 or A-250.

Maybe that's what the Chevy 6-banger he had found was formerly attached to...

Actually, #28 can't be Buick, as it's set up for an open driveshaft. It's either Olds or Pontiac.

So, does your friend want to sell either one of the T85C-1A's? They're worth about $150 each since neither one has the solenoid and probably neither one has the governor.

AHHHHH the nightmare continues. #1 looks very much like the 4 spd that my old man had in his '81 Merc Zephyr (Fairmont and other Fox body). I had that thing out about a billion times between the cheap clutches he bought and an issue we had with the inside of the housing where the shifter and shift rail rub. I have mainly seen them attached to the 4 cyl. Could be as old as the early Pinto, but I think that 4 spd was a little different.

I found this site today, Googling for info about a transmission I just got ahold of. It's a T86E-IN, same as #16 in this thread.

Assuming it's good inside, I'm not clear from what's been posted here whether it's worth trying to find a good home for, or if it's headed for the scrap yard. (It has none of the linkage parts from the outside.) The former owner had it stored indoors, so hopefully that's because it's not junk.

I'm a sentimental sort, and I hate to see old stuff that's still good stuff, melted down, if somebody somewhere can use it for it's intended purpose.

    Opinions?

Thanks in adavance for your insights...

    Never mind...

I opened it up and it has missing teeth on both one of the mainshaft gears, and the countershaft. :(
