I just posted a new thread on my 46 Ford truck and thought I'd put my 51 Pontiac on as well. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I did not take any "before" pictures. It's a typical Michigan car needing front floors, rockers and rear quarter fronts and wells. I jumped right in and gave a 4" front/ 6" rear chop, flipped the rear window upside down, built new rockers and quarter extensions on the p***enger side. The drivers side "looks" decent but the P.O. just welded patch panel over the old metal. Have to cut out and redo. Has good running flat 6 with a three speed which will stay. I plan on bagging the rear so it will drop to where it is in the pix. I also hope to have this in primer to take to Billetproof in June.
A few weeks work? Holy ****... Keep the updates coming, I also have a '51 Chieftain. You say it has a Flat6 not an 8?
Yeah, it's a flat 6 with a three on the tree. Original owner must have been to cheap to spring for the 8
Geez, I forgot I even owned this car, sold it as soon as I got it in primer about a 1 1/2 yrs ago. As far as the suspension, I ended up cutting 1 1/2 coils in the front. The rear had 3 in drop blocks with a couple springs removed. In the above pic, the rear tires are flat, thats why it was sittin low. Heres some pix from when I sold it
I sold it in Oct 2009, was kind of a bad time of year, I think it sold for $4900 as you see it, no gl***, no interior, needed some finish work to be paint ready.
Wow, that's a pretty good price for a project with that much work done. A guy could have put a few more bucks in that thing and had a real nice driver. Very cool work!!!
thanks i might just do that with mine instead of air ride and save a lot of money , i like what you did with the front i was trying to think of what i could do with mine being the grill is in pretty rough shape
