one of the cooler rides ive seen in a while. any body know the history? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7947332648&fromMakeTrack=true
Wow. I really like that custom. I wish it were closer to me. Or maybe I wished that I lived closer to St. Luis Obispo...
I really like that too. The first thing I thought of when I saw that was the one on the cover of the 1951 Custom Cars trend book 101. I don't think it's the same car, but similarly styled, maybe an updated version of it?
Looks like Coachcraft design and craftsmanship, IMHO. It has feel and styling cues of the 1941 Mercury they did that's shown on page 102 of Trend Book No. 101.
While I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship & skill, it looks more like a Jag w/Merc sheet metal than a modified Merc...in other words, it's lost its iden***y...IMO
I'm kinda blown away that he dosen't have a reserve. Whats he gona do if he only gets $7500.00 for it? Can he refuse to sell it? Or is he bound by Epay? I've never sold anything on Epay so I don't know. Must be some rules though.--TV

I guess they can't force him to but then he'd be breaking the rules, and certanly get bad feel back. I saw another guy do that(back out after the auction) from then on no one would bid on his stuff. If this thing stays that low I'm bidding 5500, if I win they are buying testicles for 50k a piece in Louisiana. Drew
This Merc has been one of my favorites since I first saw a photo of it in 1978. It did then belong to Dave Christensen, Redlands, LA and was one of the cars in his great collection original early rods & customs. A few year ago it was owned by Dave´s grandson. This page is from Lead News #27, the lower right photo is from 1978. The others from last year.
The car on the cover of Custom Cars Trendbook 101 is the "Yankee Doodle" roadster. Built by Coachcraft and based on a mix of Es*** and 39 Ford components. Originaly it featured a sectionend 39 Ford hood and grille, but a new front was later built by Frank Kurtis who owned it after World War II. Today it is restored and owned by Larry Harvey. It was featured in Collectible Automobiles Oct 2004. The other car on the cover is an Ayala-built 42 Ford cpe, anyone out there with knowledge of that car´s fate?
Maybe Im blind but I dont see any tailights. Id move the exhaust back under the body in any case if it was going to be a regular driver. Looks like a lot of 42-8 Buick parts were used from the firewall back. From what I can see in the auction that ought to bring 20K easy, probably a lot more since it is a driver.
that looks identical to it in the rodders journal joe barnett photos ,,but its listed as a 39 ford,.,ill scan it tonight..
