And some people find it fun to defend things that suck. I'm sure Anniecargirl has a defender, too.

It's not the kind of car I am into personally, but still doesn't look so terrible to me. In fact, I am having a hard time figuring out what the hell the people are even complaining about with it.

I am all for bashing crap heap rat rods that go for tasteless lazy ass ignorance on purpose. But this car looks like it has a lot of hard work and thought put into it. It still may not be what I personally might not be into. But I have respect for that. It's a custom and somebody's vision and just don't think it deserves to be trashed like some are doing.

honestly, it doesnt work real well from some angles but its hardly worth all the abuse its taken here. Really, its not that bad.

  8. Well since this was still up I thought I'd re-hash it. I agree with Jimmy B in that it should have been made into a hardtop. Also, I wouldn't have imbelished the front fenders. If this has become the subject of classification, I'd place it under Street Rod...it really gives me that feel, maybe because of some subconcious connection with the fiberglass thing. I don't have photoshop so bear with my Windows Paint rendition.:) Kind of a before and after.

Wow,some of you guys are jackasses with no class or respect at all. I like the car,and I've seen some cars here that I can't stand, but I never trash them, because at least they are doing something other than out robbing people, selling drugs,or some other stupid shit. Funny thing is,a few of the guys trashing Ian's work have never built a fucking thing, only bought their cars finished.

Just saying. Back to the same old shit as it were.

    wow....

guess i'll throw in my 2 cents

1.)To the people arguing that this guy pushes limits, to each their own, and feel free to like or dislike whatever you choose. To me, his stuff is super exagerated and often super unrefined and maddly underdesinged, so expect something like this car, and all the rest of this dudes work to catch some serious heat from a community of people with eyes for beautiful work. i dont think education, fabrication skills or IQ have anything to do with why people feel the way they do about this car.

2.)To anyone who says that "if it's not entirely traditional, people on this board will hate it"' uhmm, get used to it. This board is made up of a group of people that are into tradionally styled builds (though personally, i dont care for his work at all, and it's not based on any sense of traditional or non traditional status)

3.)I couldn't agree more with anyone who says that this car has NO flow, or tension at all...but i figured i'd put my money where my mouth is and sketch up how i would aproach doing this car, starting from the same point, with intentions of a hard chop, hardtop, section, slammed stance, and WWW tires with those hubcaps.

I dont knock the dude's metal working skills, because i don't have that much experience in that regaurd. But i am experienced with design. So I would go so far as to say that design-wise, that car is a loss to me. Perhaps my taste airs on the more subtle side of things...or perhaps i just think that when someone takes the approach of "I’ll know what it supposed to look like when it’s done", without a roadmap, even if only a vague one, the result is often unsuccessful. Not to say the quality is bad, or that it can’t have nice details but as a whole, it totally falls apart.

I'll jump off my soapbox now.:D

The customer may have received what they envisioned, but the above design is VERY good looking. Very different. Almost a fastback Zephyr tail-dragger.

    Good job!

I read all 15 pages of this shitstorm and I still don't like the proportions on this car at all.

    -BUT-

I hate it less than I do anniecargirl

You should change your screen name to Bitch.

  21. I don't think anyone said Ian can't work metal. He can and there is no doubting that. I just don't get why folks think someone can't voice their opinion if it goes against their personal opinion. I don't like the proportions, but I'm not the customer. I don't even know if there was a customer or if Ian built it cause he just wanted to "express" his views. Point is everyones taste is different. That doesn't mean you can't cook! It just means I don't like what I just tasted!

I'm sure he built what he wanted. I would probably go crazy too if I had a shop...or a garage for that matter!

I'm all for cutting up a car.......but a Zephyr is one that should be left alone, other than a drop and shave...

    It's worse!

This is from his website www.ianroussel.com

Ian Roussel is a master craftsman and visionary with a keen eye for the unusual, a radical edge to the already cool, and a love for stirring up controversy with every single build. Like most of his fans, Ian fell in love with customizing cars as a teenager. After honing his skills in New York, Ian came to Southern California, the Mecca of custom cars, to immerse himself in metal fabrication and to cut, chop, and channel his way into Kustom renown. Imbued with a look and sense of style the average builder can only dream of, Ian's creations and custom builds are always and everywhere the center of attention, respect and - frequently - heated debate. Ian has the uncanny ability to tailor each build to its uniquely defined specifics. His ingenious problem solving skills have become legendary and are well documented on each of his commercial DVDs. Ian keeps his eye on the finish line without cutting corners while staying true to his art and lending his finished product an always inspiring and eternally unique look as only a consummate professional with his edge can. With his charisma and frequently off-beat wit, Ian has captured the attention of many a build show viewer while creating a faithful army of fans eagerly anticipating the Master's next move. Ian refuses to compromise and always puts his own art and skills to the test. With his boundless knowledge, skills and love for building, Ian has what it takes to bring Kustom Kulture to the next level!

You may be able to swim in it, but the fumes will kill you!

Be sure to check out his cars... he does seem like a nice, soft-spoken guy who enjoys having fun, but is perhaps too influenced by cartoons, and the notoriety he can generate with his "wat wad" style. With The Zephyr, he seems totally out of his element.
