Some of my best solutions have come from stuff I've done that is nearly right. It's only when you do the 'nearly right' bit that you can measure how far off you are.

    P.S. Isn't it called prototyping?

I've had to reconsider my "brilliant" ideas more than once. I think we all do in this hobby. That said, go ahead and post some pics! We won't laugh, though we may snicker a bit. :D

This happens to all of us man...Look at Henry Ford...the Model T got its name from the letter in the alphabet they were up to in their prototype constructions...they started with model a, b, c, and so on until they got it right with the T...

Its not a **** up if you learn by mistakes! If you dont learn ,yes you are stupid!

  7. I do my best learning by failure if it doesn't work the first time try again , probably the best lesson taught to me by my parents. Ya know its like trying to make a kid you HAVE to keep trying thats half the fun!Rob P.S. I adopted my boys now thats a failure story....but we keep trying!!

  9. Or "Iterative Design".

BTW, retiredfireguy, I'm guessing you used to be a fireman... perhaps you know my friend Mitch here in MLT. I think he's with the FD in Seattle.

I love that line. I'm a fireman and you'd think all firemen must know each other. I get that question all the time.

How many of you are builders and know every other builder?....or mechnics? My mate Josh is a mechanic...you probably know him ;)

Sorry Bill. Just taking the piss. I just found it funny that it's the same everywhere.

My best friend in college took a long time to graduate. He would audit a cl*** then take it for a grade then took it over again for grade averaging. He is one of the smartest men I know. I guess that kinda like we all do in building our cars try and try again till we got it right!!

I am going to have to put him at a better than just normal.

He's admitted to being fallible, and to having being humbled by it, which is better than quite a few "normal" people I know.

If you fix it, yes it is called prototyping. If you leave it then it is called a rat rod.

I do not know how to do anything the first time. I have ground more welds off than I can remember, but when I finally figure it out and step back and look at it, then it feels good.

  24. I have a real good friend that calls that trail blazing.

No one is going to build in a month what took a lot of us 30 or 40 years to learn. Building a hot rod has a huge learning curve. Keep hammering away and you'll do alright.

OK I gotta know what was your last big mistake.

One of mine from the recent past was cutting holes in the firewall of an old stude to make a B/RB fit. it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I have changed to a more reasonable engine ****** combo (the original plan) and have way more firewall to patch than I would have.

    Life goes on.

yep, what he said. the cut on my hand is not from a mistake or a screwed attempt at fun, it was a successful faillier!

Thanks for a good laugh, guys.
Striper - You noticed that too - All fire guys must know each other. If I had a dollar for every fire guy I didn't know, I'd be rich.
    Lobucrod - Loved your statement.
Porkn****** - My most recent "prototyping" experience also involved a big hole that really didn't need to be cut in my firewall.
