I made some frame covers that mount to the bottom front side of the bedsides but when i put them on and stood back and looked at them im not sure that i like them. So I took a s**** piece of sheet metal and bent up a smaller one to see what it would look like but cant decide between them or if i should make something different. I would really appreciate some feedback and input on the matter and see what everyone thinks. Original pair one i made to get an idea without just for reference
Strangely I like the 'naked" version best. The filler panel as an extension of the bed looks wrong. Maybe just a little piece that mounts to the framerail and covers the empty area between framerail and body? And instead of the sharp step in the frame a smooth bigger radius corner so it looks like a vintage automotive frame?
post a pic of the naked one from the same distance as the other ones. i cant make up my mind from the smaller panel, or no panel.
as requested here is a shot farther away with no frame cover. I think i am leaning towards the smaller one but im not sure if the front of it should match the angle of the cab or flow with the edge of the bed and be straight up and down.
I spend many hours and made plenty of s****. I think it needs to be on a different plane then the bed side panel.
I went throught a similar situation\thought process. What i worked out is that just puting a panel behind the tub makes the car look fat in the tub area, it needs to extend back over the rear end and to the end of the tub, does not have to be as thick\heavy all the way but something need to bring it all together. My 2c.
Maybe add a triangular extention to the front of the bed sides to follow the contour of the back of the tub. Then a panel along the bottom of the bed sides,2 or 3 inches deep, following the contour of the tub at the front and radiused at the rear. I think the kick in the frame is possibly too high to cover completely but, depending on how you paint it,you might be able to disguise it.With the body painted 'a colour' and the frame black,it shouldn't be as noticeable.
thanks for the input. The back of the bed side behind the axle does have a roll pan with sides that come forward on the bedside and stop just before the spring. the smaller panel is a little longer then the side of the roll pan and i think that may be throwing me off as well. I think i need to make them both the same side. I will try to grab a picture of it today and show what i am talking about
The smaller panel looks good on there, the larger one is kinda ginormous and distracting. No panel at all looks unfinished. Lookin good, man!
Small panels it is. Now how do I angle the front against the cab? Leave it as it is or follow the bed lines.
Less is more , and follow the cab profile . Maybe a little bead or body line to give it some character.
It's Model A body on a deuce ch***is, but this was a simple solution that might work for you. Filler piece with a flange rolled into it, held onto the bed rail with "rivet-screws."
I'd think a different tact. What if you dropped the bed down a tad. Doesnt have to be half way but just push it down a little? I think the problem with the filler piece is it looks added. I would add material to the bed and blend it in with no seam may look more natural. Similar to the pic with the splash apron A. With the wire wheels it looks very open, so a balance of the space is what I am looking at.
