There was a local racer when I was young, he raced probably the only 55 chevy with the front bumper still on it I liked, it ran D/MP......I worked at the local track, whenever he showed up I was all over his car, see what he changed, asked all kinds of questions, generally being a pain in the ass I guess...... anyway, years later I wound up wrenching and driving for him. I actually had that 55 in my possession for a while"To Sell IT" for him, than wound up working on it for the new owner for a little while. I hooked uop with him and got to drive a well funded record holding car.I got to play with equipment I could only dream about, spent his money like water. I'd say it was pretty much a dream come true..... I never hoped for it, but am glad as hell it did happen. This goes way back to mid to late 70's

I wanted to strafe the high school parking lot with a P-51.
Also wanted to do a huge burnout leaving the parking lot in a model a five window.
Street race with my hot Bug.
I wished my dad had a cool car we could go on a road trip and car show in.
    Rebuild a motor myself.
Take out a good looking girl in my sweet car.
Holy crap I could go on and on.

Went to buy a local car advertised in one of those penny shopper free mags when I was 16 and had just got my drivers license.

1957 Ford Convertible ex-drag racing car. Scrapped together $500 of the asking price but had to bring the old man along for the next $25.00 I needed to meet the asking price of $525.00

Get there and I saw it and I was like SOLD ready to pay without even opening the hood. Then my pops the non car guy starts bugging the guy with all kinds of off the wall question like he would know what the guy was talking about.

Then I heard the magic answer to "what the heck is that over there?" and the seller said "it's a ford factory supercharger" and my old man said "Nope no way your getting a car with a supercharger on it"........ original 1957 Y block convertible with factory blower on it for $525.00 and MY POPS (bless his good intentions) says NO WAY.

I just wanted to get my '50 Chevy AD pickup on the road that i got when i was 7 years old for $200. I did eventually get it on the road as my daily driver, but i was 17 by then. My other dream would have been to have my dad's buddy's bad ass '50 Merc sled, i was sick of riding in the back seat on cruise night, i wanted to kick the ol guys out and take the wheel.

  22. As a young kid I first off wished for a sexy promiscuous girl friend. (Didn't we all?)
Most girls considered me too geeky, too unwashed, and too shy so we'll move on to the next wish.

I wanted a red, chopped '32 5 window, channeled to death and either Caddy or early Olds powered. Never got it.

As I hit my 20's and had a small amount of money saved I lusted for a '62, '63 or even a '64 Impala 409 Super Sport. Never got that either.

Well................I got my health (I think..) so these wishes keep me going.
Maybe someday Jungle Pam or Linda Vaughn will pull up to the front door of my little house and invite me to the drive-in in her big old 409 Super Sport or chopped 5 window.

Customs are for getting women..........Hot Rods are for loosing them. "Robert Williams"

To be able to do everything to build a car myself. All the fab, mechanical, upholstery and paint. Finally have achieved that and budget aside, am going on a building frenzy.

However, the missing key in all of this would be to gain the feedback of two of my late mentors, my Godfather Johnny Parks, and his brother in law Jack Moriarty, to let them look at my work and rate it.

    That would be priceless.

  28. This is an easy one for me... I remember telling anybody who would listen (probably before I turned 11 or 12) that if I became president I would have all the four door cars returned to the factory and remade into two door cars...
