I found this on craigslist awhile ago and the guy agreed to sell for what I think is a decent price. I just want to know what you guys think since your the experts in my opinion. Its a 1946 Chevy Pickup on a 1990 S10 frame. Its got a 350 and an auto tranny. He did most of the work himself and built the front end thus there is no bottom grill part. Its chopped 3 inches and also channelled. He said it does have some over heating problems that would need to be adressed.

I am would love to use it as a daily driver/work truck. Lemme know what you guys think and how much its worth.

    Thanks!
I really appreciate you guys cause you know your stuff.

Here are some pics he sent me. He was saying he did all the body work, I donnu if that means metal or lots of bondo, but there are dings and scratches but he said its pretty good.

It would all depend on what needs addressed to solve the overheating problems.

Maybe it doesn't have a lower grill and heating problems because it's not getting enough air flow. Maybe a fan would work. Maybe not.

After seeing the photo of the engine compartment, I wouldn't touch that thing with a 10' pole.....

Maybe the overheating issues are because the grille used to be a lot more open and the pipes that are in place of the hood vents are not helping the heat escape.

Here is a pic from the net of what it should look like were it stock-ish.

What price is he asking for the truck?,by the looks of the picture with the hood up not a very good paint job,and the overheating could probably be cured with a shroud and better fan.

  8. It's gonna overheat the way he has it set up. their is no where to draw air from or no where for it if go out of the engine compartment, it needs to breathe. make sure the radiator is big enough to cool it, and get rid of that worthless flex fan and run a hd clutch fan with a 7 or 8 blade fan and put a shroud on it, that should help a bunch, but you still need to get incoming air to the radiator, either make a scoop setup under the front fender/grill or put the stock grill back in it. then make sure their is room around the motor, hood vents so the hot air has someplace to go.

Here are some more pictures. I assume I would have to drill holes in the front or put some kind of grill to get air to it, but that doesn't seem too big. I don't care for the paint color too much but its not that big of a deal to me.

I personally wouldn't give $5K for it, there is just too much that I'd want to change. However, if you just want it as a daily driver and can live with the modifications it has I say go for it.

Is that the truck listed for 8500 bucks? What you're getting is more or less is a 350 powered S10 with an early body instead of an S-10 body.Check it out ,make sure it's all done nicely,it's your money.

He was asking $8500 but it was on craigslist for awhile so I decided to shoot him a low offer and he said since I was a young kid he and wanted to drive it, he was more willing to part with it. Which probably means he hasn't had any offers.

I know lots of people are not fans of S10 frames on the HAMB but I think it would make things easier to work with and a better driver. Honestly, I don't know a whole lot about rods, get lots of help from my dad and being able to get new parts for fairly cheap prices wouldn't hurt me.

The grill set up kind looks funky to me and not a huge fan that the front end isn't original so I donnu how I feel about that. I think I would want to change it somehow but not sure yet.

5-G's doesn't get much anymore, I'll bet you couldn't do the work yourself and get it to that condidtion for less. Either you or some one competent should look at it close to make sure it's not a death trap.
    Good luck Robert

An S10 frame swap can make a nicer driver...or not.....depends on your type of driving.
Sounds like you want the truck, sounds like the seller has given you price you like...I think you don't need to listen to us,go buy it!;)

Clear WA title? That's worth a few hundred. Whatever the hood, fenders, doors, grille, motor, tranny, rear axle, and bed are worth. Motor overheats, its worth a couple of hundred, maybe. Tranny works its worth three hundred. Chassis is worth a couple of hundred. You are going to want to repaint it anyhow. Add it up.

Also...if he starts telling you the truck is in Kansas, and he's overseas, or on a job in Canada, but he's going to do the transaction using Ebay's Buyer's Protection Plan, tell him he needs to go wait for the next turnip truck, cuz you just ain't his guy.

Make sure he has CLEAR title to the vehicle and ask him whether it's titled as a 46 Chev pickup or an S10 - cuz you just may have some DMV issues and some smog issues if it's an S10 title.

Two things to always remember - Buyer Beware and protect yourself at all times.

If everything is legit and it's a safe vehicle, I'd say between $3,500 and $5,000 would be considered a good buy for that truck.

'Bout what I was thinkin depending on how rough the body is. If it was me though I'd change that awful looking steering column and steering wheel out for something more vintage looking.
