Damn Germ, you've got one hell of a memory. Those were the days of the H.A.M.B. when it took a few days for the post list to roll over! What I remember about the "old" H.A.M.B. is the hazing! Sometimes I would be in tears almost falling out of my chair I was laughing so hard. The hazing back then made "hell week" at a serority (sp?) house seem like a night of bingo at the old folks home. You newbies have it real easy around here these days! VIVA LA HAMB!

Jack the Germ, South Sacto ****, defender of all that was GGAllin. after Speedfreak gave up his Newbie Buster Club, Germ picked it up and ran screaming into the night. you have to hand it to him- he's been banned more times than I can recall yet always managed to get back. it seemed there were only around 30 registered folks back then and if even a couple had been silent for a few days it was cause for concern, as if by failing to show themselves on the board they'd fallen out of orbit. there'd be a number of posts oohing and aahing over someone's new oil breather or DP job. photos were rare, usually limited to the guys who were handy with computers and code. now astonishing projects are revealed almost daily and it's nearly commonplace. I do miss the anarchy and handy instant anonymity of the old board, though. you could pull all kinds of cunning stunts without tipping your hand, let the air out of someone's pomposity, screw with folks' heads. it was great. compared to today's HAMB, it was like a fishing shack to a megamall, CB to the Web itself, magnitudes smaller. mem-o-ries...

Dan, it was the days when email addys held secert messages and before you had been Foiled the first time. Page after page of a running thread of Phantom trying to get into Lil Mephs pants in the wee hours of the morning from across the country. And Jason pre Killer days was the Biggest HAMB badd*** newbie slayer around shooting rock videos with **** doing cross overs at speed. Speedfreak and his branding of the HACK(Hokey *** Car Klub) and which spawned the first abandoned ideas of HAMB plaques even though Wolf did a really cool rendering. McPhail was still building his T and driving his Chevy . Voodoo Jim was selling Artist at Large art on T's and some others too. Even then we were trying the HAMB chat on Yahoo and Ryan calling us lame for talking about cut off dates after a 30 second pop in and out. Richie and Spooky schooling me on the g***er look in the earlier hours of the morning, complaining that I never sleep.(working graves does that to ya, at least then.) Then ripping the gas tank off the Sledsel and dragging it a couple three blocks on it's maiden voyage before the *****less groupies jumped in for a ride. You are right about our love and concern for our fellow OG HAMBers. If you miss a more than a week without at least a smart *** dig on someone, then someone wanted to know if you we're still breathing. I suppose that's one reason I still look for the OG Hambers posts, why Jack is still one of my favorite people. The HAMB has evolved into a different critter, one that is grasping the nuclous of what we believe as rodders. Spreading the grease on our internet sammiches as TJJ put it (which I miss dearly, so many hours in a day I understand Ryan). Have we evolved as a group? This is a funny read. Living a little outside the first regulars neighbourhoods and lacking the fabricatorskills and oppertunities most of them have, -I have allways felt like a damn newbie here, but man I have been a newbie for quite a while... I think Im HAMBer no.60... Early enought that we could keep track of al the regulars. I have witnessed a lot of funny stuff (if from a distance) too: -DrJs "dreamride" in ultra-annoying HotRodAngels endless thread which whole purpose probably was to hit on the kid Dragpunk.. -Sol Rosenburg... nuff said. The funniest stuff on here ever. -Dr Knobchiese's helpful hints to understand ones inner gay or whatever, which would piss off lots of guys, but no matter what insult they shouted, the god dr. would just drive on in his Lincoln Cartier (Car-ti-æh ?) completely unruffled and probably smoking his pipe. The brains behind it all was offcourse our man Nads, who else? It was all mysterious until the Dr. was observed driving a redoxideprimered chopped 54 Chebby with Packard taillights, wearing a cabanasuit and playing a gnarly saxophone in a *********... -Also I used to laught for hours over Steve, Mud, Paul (from Brisbane) and Dustins endless back and forth duels. What happened to the french love ***** after Dustin sold her? And did Paul and Muds Jaffa-import/export venture ever take off? Also, where did he girls who used to hang around back then go? I remember long music-discussions via PMs with one of them, -whos name I sadly have forgotten. -Also I kinda liked Axel, Marcus and Sams long backnforth AG-quizzes and discussions. These days I find myself more as an observer than anything else, but it has been fun times.

Because of this board, I've met a bunch of really good folks from all over the world, I've learned alot, I've received help and I've had a damn good time. It's been a good thing to be a part of. Myself, Jerry and Glen have been around so long that our HAMB handles are our actual names. SamIyam was the first RRT guy to respond reasonably to my post during the "Great Whitewall Controversy" flame war. Who remembers "Garcia"? oh the old days were fun. This place used to make me laugh multiple times a day. Its different now, but thats ok. I tend to watch more thn I post more due to being busy as hell with work. Its still a good place, but I wish the newcomers got **** more like the old days.
Came here when Jalopy Journal first opened up. Seemed more at***udes than cars back then. Wandered away and forgot for a while. Came back as a lurker soaking it in but didn't get involved much because I was too busy working patrols and building the deuce to spend much time on the computer. Then I finally got a day job with a computer and returned for good under my present name. By then, we had pics on here and you could see what everyone was doing. Guys were showing progress pics, and sadly pics of the wrecks when they happened. The great fights when I pushed for plaques. Then came the H.A.C.K. HAMBchop, the weekly reads, the art show, and all the rest. Lots of bull on here, and hot collars & at***udes at times, but there's always that solid core something that holds artists, machinests, retired old farts, and new green kids together in one melting pot. The HAMB, "The cutting edge of contempory traditionalism!" 3 HAMBers I actually knew from before the HAMB. Ryan from playing Air-Warrior (Pre WWW) Dave from Roadsters.com and the North of 49's Mike & his dad. Doing a Yahoo search for Street Rod or Roadster used to turn up about 5 sites. Mine, Boulder Bob's roadster page from Colorado, Mike's (He's still got that same A roadster). Then Roadsters.com and Rumpsville. Before that it was Mosaic and the start of the World Wide Web, and before that it was Gopher searches. Even before that it was BBS boards set up on Atari 800's and Apple II's dialing each other long distance every night when the long distance charges were low. You younger guys have no idea how really great you've got it.
