I thinking of doing minor changes to my Coupe( nothing major like a chop or body mods) But some cool tricks from back in the day. Not a lot of guys had the bucks to do full out Kustoms, but did some great stuff with little cash. Let's hear from some Old School Hamber's and see what we can come up with.
WOW! thats one good looking car you got there. I wouldn't do anything to it, im in the middle of mating the frame and the body back together from bagging my 49. if mine would of looked liked your i wouldnt of done a thing. i still have alot of work to do because its in poor shape.AWESOME CAR!!!
I agree, the car is slick as fuck... BUT, shave the handles, french the lights, maybe lose the trim. But, the car honestly looks too pretty to want to mess with the paint. Ill trade ya mine and you can knock yourself out with mods, haha
Maybe a pair of dummy teardrop spotlights (if they don't tangle with the radio antenna), and perhaps some of those wing window "breezes" air deflectors. They come in chrome or colored plastic. Great looking car as is.
that is tough, maybe see if you can find the front window chrome moulding and chrome, I know ems has the moulding. I had heard flipping the bumpers upside down was pretty popular and low bucks to do that, I donno what they look like though my ford came sans bumpers.
Thanks ! Keep the ideas coming, just a little bored with the shoebox, want to spark my interest in the car again. The Merc I have kind of took over, and the shoebox took a back seat. So I want to take it to Billetproof this month.
That thing is nice just as it is. Maybe a couple vintage accessories that you cant just buy anywhere but real unique pieces. Besides that......Looks great.
I honestly feel the car is good as is if you dont want to shave or do any chopping or body mods. If you had to do some things I would maybe add a real set of spots. they also made alot of different headlight bezels for the shoebox back then, some were bezels with shades, some had different shapes. Also if you can find them they made a filler piece out of chrome for the piece on the hood that you have now were it is shaped to accept the center bullet for the grille. Then maybe a straight grille bar. This seems like some common things that were done back then when you look at the little pages especially in the readers "rides" section.
I have in the garage a balanced and dual carb flathead six ready to go, just need to find the time or pay someone to do the work for me. I just don't have the space or time. I have plenty of the little pages, I should look through. I should look over my 49' Eastern Auto Catalog.. Hmm I have seen the various headlight rings they had for these cars. The shrouded style are hip !
Given your direction of "No body mods", I'd leave it alone. It's clean now. Even a mild kustom gets a nose, deck, shave and lowering job. In my books, a creating a kustom is about taking stuff off, not adding accessories. Given the car is almost stock, I wouldn't even run spotlights. I would run a set of '51 filled bumpers if I did anything. They are heavier and better looking bumpers in my opinion. Just enjoy it.......an please please no fishtail exhaust tips and cherry bombs....
I'm gonna be asking the same thing as soon as my new ride gets here Friday. I already have some YOM plates that I think will be a nice touch, then gonna lower it just a little bit, then gonna drive the piss out of it.
I do not think there is TOO much you can do to a shoebox coupe. A 2dr sedan is a whole different story. Your car looks great to me as is.. but then again I'm partial .
