Mini Cooper cute, SUV brawn, cutting edge Ford styling...
    Whats not to like?

    EVERYTHING unfortunately.

Why does Ford have so much trouble with this retro thing?
    I give them a 2 outta 10 for the T-Bird...2 for the Marauder...and about a .375 for that brick.
Only the new Mustang has captured the retro spirit and has a price that makes it true to its roots.

    OK...I'll give the new GT 40 a 9.9! I'm NOT crazy!
    (But I'm not rich either...)

This is what happens when auto designers are restricted to using legos instead of clay.

Suppose the designer's sister is covered in moles? [IMG]

Gives the words "Brick ****house" a whole new meaning. [IMG]

Looks like they're still using clay to me. Clay bricks.
1:Stack short brick on top of long brick.
2:Use scotch tape to taper from upper brick to lower brick, thus forming windshield.
3:Wait for Car & Driver magazine to proclaim you the next Harley Earl! [IMG]

Its just a name. As a matter of fact, "Fairlane" was the name of Henry Ford's estate originally.

What in gay hell were they thinking when they named that the new Fairlane?! It looks more like an old Bronco.

Ohhhhh no, oh no thank you... They had to call it a Fairlane? There are other names available... Nondescript Box comes to mind... But look, everyone! It has a salsa tray! I had to go look at all the pictures, didn't I?

Ok, now that I trash talked it, here are the good points as I see it.

1:You can put lots of stuff in a square box. And stuff lots of square boxes in this square box.

2:Very simple designed body. You don't need mega presses or complicated molds for this one. It's a world car. You can probably stamp body panels out in very small factories in places like Afghanistan, ****stan, the Phillippines, Iraq, Somalia, etc. Thus giving jobs to all the third world people who hate us for feeding & clothing them. Terrorists won't be able to attack us if they have to be back to work Monday morning.

3:Depending on local terrain and needs, you could make it into a station wagon, SUV, 4 wheel drive van, hunting/camping rig, suicide bomb vehicle, whatever just by swapping out the drivetrain. 1 box does it all.

4: Uh, I'm sure there must be a 4, lemme sleep on it...

Sheet, and they call my '51 a shoebox. . .

Really it is another sad attempt by Detroit (or wherever they are are built now) to try sell more plastic ****boxes with wheels that have no style to them at all to people who have more money than sense. Its going to be really sad when I have to explain to someone, that yes, the GTO, Thunderbird, Cougar, Fairlane and others were indeed really cool cars of the past, but are remade/restyled/re****edwith into plastic autobortions for a throwaway culture who will just buy the next great thing next year anyway.

Honestly, how much pride can you have knowing that you'll hand your PLASTIC car down to your kids someday (or they take it from you when your locked in your nursing home)?

Man that is **** ugly. I think they've resurected the Montego moniker too, but I don't know what it looks like. If the Fairlane looks that bad the Montego must be really ugly. [IMG]

The new Montego is the Mercury counterpart to the new Ford 500...a kinda okay looking rounded off car that's big and heavy...and grossly underpowered by a Duratec V6!

I'll take one of them new Chargers, though! They're supposed to be doing a Daytona edition with a Hemi in limited numbers...I'd buy one if I were rich!

Dang sounds like a Dr. Suess story...one fish two fish....Fugly lookin thing! I agree, they should call it the new BRONCO. Looks like a Bronco. I have to say the new Charger, Mustang and Camaro look true to their 69 counterparts. Even the T-Bird isnt as bad as this or Chevrolet's Impala (lickin more then frogs on that one!) The new GTO is a let down as well.....cept it has 400 ponies for 2005!
