Does Anyone know where I can get a set of wide white wall tires for a reasonable price in Southern California.
I'm not being a smartass, but cheap is not an option. Goodrich, Coker, and Diamondback are the only suppliers that I know. It's like buying gold. For my money, Diamondback has the best tires.
I had a set of Diamondbacks on a '63 Bentley S3. Over 5000 pounds of car and those tires were fabulous. Don't skimp on tires or brakes.
Cheap or Reasonable........All the suppliers are in the same price range. Cheap they are not. Reasonable is a matter of opinion.
Go to Discount Tire and get them to order you some from Coker. They come out of Fresno in two or three days. It's easy. Just did it last week.
If you were in Northern Cal I'd say go to Les Schwab and see what kind of deal they could get you but I don't know what tire chains are in SoCal. Here locally at least, we can get wide whites though the local tire shops that we buy our tires for our daily drivers from without hassles.
I just wanted to know where to get some decent priced tires or if anybody out their knew a place or had a friend that can offer a decent price, other than the buying them from the maker. I have a set of remingtons that are about to blow soon and I did not want to spend most my money on tires.

I have bought 6 sets of wide whites from coker and within less than 6 months the white walls are cracked looks like they are 50 years old and i have called them 3 times and got no help so i would not buy any tires from coker , thats my two cents.
You already know the usual suspects. (coker, wwcandystire, lucas, etc) other alternatives 1. Grind your own whitewall. Plenty of "how to" threads on here 2. Search craiglist or HAMB classifieds. Car guys are always changing their shoes and looking to sell a slightly used set. BTW: I would just bite the bullet and go with the Coker. This hobby aint cheep or reasonable.
become an Alliance Member to support the board. Order them from Coker, get a discount and get on with it.
Along those lines, does anyone still make those old portawalls, the white walls that are not part of the tire? they were held on by the inner strip between the rim and tire.
Anyone currently using them? (portawalls) I would love to know more as I dont have $200 bucks for 1 tire....and this might fit the bill until I can get more free cash.
Little high on your estimate ( I just bought a set from Discount Tire for $150 each, including mounting and balancing). However, here's something you may want to consider. I did something similar in the '50's (sorry for the small pic). ....and http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Whit...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories <br>
Performance plus Tire in Long Beach on Cherry has Cokers in stock and I have had no problem with them. 3910 Cherry Avenue Long Beach, CA 90807 (562) 988-0211
Ya I got some thin whites, but you know, bigger is better....but after getting some more opinions on other car sites as well, I will just save up for the real thing~
I have also heard bad stuff about the Coker WW tires. The White fades or yellows. The tires on the car in my avatar are actual bias ply Firestone tires. tires, tube, and boot all for about $120. per tire. i got them from a tire wholesaler. i suggest picking up the phone book. I wouldnt use anyone just beacuse they are an "alliance vendor". my two cents.
My Diamondbacks have been great, I'm on my second set.The first set still looked perfect but worn-out, in fact my son has them for his '41 truck project. I ran these on my Route 66 run last year.
Cokers stay white as much as any other, just how you clean them. Myself, it is simple green and scotch-brite. Corky told me the white goes to the cord, so really can t fade.
