I'm helping my friend with his 68 Biscayne LS6 clone build. We put a 69 p/s pump in the car. It has a 30 spline 3/4" shaft. He still has the stock 68 manual steering colum. We have been trying to come up with a rag joint to mate the two together with no luck. Are we screwed? does anyone sell/make custom rag joints? We figured being GM it would be easy but it is getting a bit frustrating. Thanks, Todd
If you cant find one ,Make one ,Theres not alot to them .The help parts carry them ,I also believe there the same for some mopar applications .
Give a shout to Ecklers and Bob' Impalas. Maybe Year One too. Those 3 company's have bailed me out of full size Chevy purgatory numerous times.
look at your local parts house ...see if they carry the HELP brand....remember seeing one on the hELP rack....
1st off, Manual and P/S rag-joints have different top and bottom shaft sizes. I want to say 13/16" and 3/4" but have forgotten which is used for the application? That said, You may want to contact "Lee" to see what they have to say to help you. http://www.lee-powersteering.com I do know that my '67SS/RS Camaro that I ordered with stock manual quick ratio and tilt has a bolt-on bottom steering column flange vs a welded-on flange or visa versa, I forget so please check this out too. One last point is order a rag-joint kit that includes a hi-tensile steel screen wire re-enforced rubber washer!! ****ers are like they are made out of a steel-belted tire tread!! To hell with the straight rubber jobbers b/c they will just over time, rip apart! And if you buy it, please be very carefull and deburr the cir***ferience(Sp?) of it using your bench grinder b/c the little steel wire ends are like NEEDLES!! Been there, bled a bunch! pdq67
If you have the metal parts to the top and the metal parts to the bottom, you can get a replacement rubber biscuit at the parts store to make a custom one.Like Brandon said, try to find it in the "HELP" section.
Check the local NAPA store. I recently bought a kit with some hardware and the rubber "donut". worked great
