im only 19 and i drive a 1950 chevy coupe with 361 built. I pulled up at a stop light some kids in a mitubishi told me it ran like **** (312 duration cam). I laughed at them so they raced me and i made them feel dumb as hell. I dont get it every kid thinks foreign cars are so bad ***. Is this really how the new generations are going to be.

Unfortunately so. Down here in FL (thank God) there aren't many ricers.

We do, however, have the 'redneck-gangsta' hybrids. This is seriously the WORST culture shock! A bunch of dumb*** kids dressed like hillbillies, driving some jacked-up POS truck they bought off craigslist, hooking up a $2000 sound system, and blasting rap music. Its scary as hell.

You ever hear of Country Rap (****, as I like to call it)? Guess what this new "generation" has influenced.

Unfortunately, young people like us are few and far between in the hot rodding scene. Even fewer in the Traditional scene.

Kudos to the young H.A.M.B members not following the Import Tuner crowd. I don't get the appeal of a turbo I4 going vroom-fart at every spotlight.

You can"t really blame the kids, our sorry *** Government let all this **** into the country just like the red-dotters,the kids don"t have much to choose from, years ago they banned the VW because the US automakers couldn"t compete with the gas mileage, now they are back to.What kid would want to drive around in a SUV, Thats the same as some of old guys wanting a old corvette to drive instead of the ugly *** cars of the 60s and 70s

  9. My 13 year old son likes the newer stuff - like his '73 Nova that is learning on & I like my stuff like my '49 Chevy.

I'm not a fan at all of the imports but at least these kids are showing interest in cars. The price of finding an older car and fixing it up is unobtainable for most teenagers. They can pick up a Vtec Honda for a little bit of nothing and to them working on one is as easy as working on a sbc to the majority of us on here. Maybe the American auto makers ought to look at this trend and give the kids something to make them want to buy American other than an underpowered Cobalt SS or overpriced Mustang GT.

I don't know why you're blaming "the hippies".
    1. There aren't hardly any hippies left these day. Do you even know what a hippie is/was?
    2. Hippies were pretty cool folks..."Peace and Love".
    3. Hippies didn't teach these young people this stuff...we're talking about as far from hippies and you can get...CCR, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, vs. SnoopDog and all the rest of the "gangsta ****" crowd.

What really cracks me up, is seeing older guys buying into the presently popular culture...dew-rag on the head, tatoos, baggy-*** pants with the crotch to the knees, earings, etc...wantin' ta look like some gang-banger with a bad at***ude. Saw/heard a guy pull into the gas-station today with his stereo thumpin'...he looked to be in his '40s...Whaaaa?

Concerning the predominance of foreign cars...blame our auto manufacturers for not keeping their act together.

I don't see why"tuners" are so popular. They are all cookie-cutter cars. That is why i love older cars; each one has its own personality and they are not made out of fibergl***.

I dont get this wasnt the first time its happened to me they put an exhaust an a intake on and they think they have the fastest car in the valley. Ive never lost to a foreign car cause its all the same thing exhaust maybe turbo chip cold air intake but they need to learn they need to grow a pair (2 to 4 more cylinders).

I know what you mean when I was 22 I’m 34 now, this collage kid in a z3 pulls up next to me at a stop light revs his motor looks over at me twirls his finger and mouths lets go. Well me in my 63 ChevyII 400 sb 30 over mild cam and a five speed accept his invite, rev my engine and nod to say ok. Brought my tach up to about 2000, any more and I'll just melt the tires off the rims trying to come out the hole. I could hear him revving his engine. So I’m ready locked and loaded. Told the girlfriend to hold on all wile she screaming at me don't do it you’re an @$$. I turned back to the lights just to see the cross street light turn from yellow to red this particular street there is a 2second delay from the cross street light turning red to my light turning green . I heard him let his clutch out and his tires started squealing. Out comes mine the left front came up and out the hole I come. First gear we were nose to nose second gear I jumped a fender on him, third I moved up a door, 4th I’m checking my rearview mirror. Now I’m not driving a dragster but they say when you are hooked good the car will shudder because you’re on the verge of loosing traction well this thing shuddered the whole way. Up comes the next light the girlfriend says Holy ****. and this guy pulls up next to me with a big I just got my **** kicked by an old grandma car smile on his face. Leaned out his window and says what you got in that thing. I yell back at him wile kissing my bicep in the arm and hammer poses, that’s American Muscle You Should Try It Sometime.

It's all most of them know. What movies or TV shows in the last 20 years have featured old cars, american muscle cars, etc? Nothing really. Closest thing is Gone in 60 Seconds and most of the cars in it were ****. Most everything they see on TV, movies, and video games is tuner ****, and we all know that these 3 medias can make a big impression on kids.

I still remember being at Lonestar a few years back trying to fight the traffic to congress, it was black olympics that wk end. guys were dancing on their hoods of their DONK cars. Some gal, light black very attractive rolls her window down in her suv and says "what year mustang is that?" It was a 4dr 63 bel air!!!! And we were jamming Hank 3! :)

I've had imports, a 89 mazda truck makes a great parts chaser would never race anyone in it. lol

How many guys here were into mini-trucks and V-dubs back in the day? Anyone, anyone?

You never know which of those kids will end up moving onto muscle cars and then hot rods.

Yup. How about we focus on why we're here instead of why others aren't.
