how to break into a garage in 6 seconds...semi O/T

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 73RR, Jun 9, 2010.

  1. I just put a BIG hasp ring AND a piece of bent conduit right in the tracks on the inside and my door cant be lifted more than 2 inches and I have no outside lock or handle or such. I do have to go inside the garage and take these things outa the tracks, but thats a cheap price to pay, in my opinion....I have a steel back door with a steel jamb and 2 deadbolts on it, and I am making a metal grid which lag screws to the frame on the inside for the only window in my garage...and an alarm.

I have a patented devise in the works to solve this issue.... details to come once all the legal stuff is completed.

This devise allows you to still open the door as you do normally (inside AND out) yet thief can NOT get in.

I have no windows in my garage and a Liftmaster 3800 opener. When the door closes there is a box mounted next to the rail that has a solenoid that sends a thick rod in to a hole in the rail so the door cant be opened.

Probably the best security we have though are the nosy (but very nice) retired neighbors that enjoy keeping an eye on things.

I worked in a shop in Waco, Tx in the mid 70's that had that exact thing done and it was pretty secure. The shop it's self wasn't as it had a lot of glass in the doors and what not but the average sneeky thief wasn't going to get one of the overhead doors open.

Looks like a lot a practice. A full size van in reverse makes perfect.

  13. Locks, alarms, security cameras, bars on the windows, wild dogs, cats, snakes, poisonous spiders... It doesn't matter what one uses, all the above is only to keep the honest people honest, if some scumbag wants whatever you may have, they will work out a way of getting it,sadly it doesn't matter where in the world one lives, there is always somebody that wants it without working for it...

Simply wire the power for your door to the inside garage light switch. Door won't have any power to open until you go inside and turn it on. But then you would have to actually get out of your car and get some exercise............

Not to worry... no matter how disturbing these videos and web pages are this info is nothing new to the criminals, or garage door mfgs, or even the folks who make locks. Seems the honest folks are the last to know, or are easily lulled into a false sense of security. By the time we see what is going on, it's old news. I'm going to zip tie mine up. Hope I never have to use the emergency release! Gary

You do not need power in the garage at all to break in this way.... It sucks that all of these videos are available but I have yet to see the video on dodging bullets.

All good inexpensive ideas. I do the dealbolt thing too, have a steel door with a machined insert instead of the jamb retaining it. Get heavier-duty dead bolts that are longer than the home owner ones.

You can buy a small trip wire device for about 20 bucks that holds a blank shotgun shell.Rig it to a door or window with a trip wire, the door is opened, the shotgun shell fires, should scare away the intruder and get your attention. They are illegal in a few states, but non lethal by design...use at your own risk.
I believe trip wire guns or bombs intended to cause injury are illegal in every state? if you rig up one and it kills a known felon with a long criminal history, the police may look the other way.If it kills some stupid teenager then you may be in deep shit.

They were robbing fur stores by me doing just that. They'd steal a van, crash it through the window, grab the goods and be gone in 30 seconds.

One fur store got robbed a few years back in broad daylight. The owner followed the crooks out with his trusty Mossberg, dropped one dead in his tracks and badly winged another as they drove off. All were caught and the cops weren't too happy about the gun play on Main Street.

I like the carabiner idea! no outside handles on my garage door, only opens from inside. no reason to use an opener on the work/hot rod garage

Door channels have a zillion holes punched in them.
I just use old push rods or a screw driver thru one of the holes, near a wheel.

No windows, doors don't face the street, tall solid gates across the driveway !!
However if I had that kind of door I would zip tie it and add the bare wire deal
    just for good measure !!
