My 49 Plymouth has a set of rear leafs and hangers out of a 72 Nova, but they are about 1 1/2 inches too long and leave no room for flex as the shackles are angled too far back. the make up of the frame wil not let me move the shackle mount back, so I need leafs that are shorter. Does anyone have a interchange book that would show what make/model of vehicle would have a set of leafs that would work? I know I can get the leafs I have now shortened, but would just as soon find a bolt in replacement.
Now that is maddening. Makes you wonder why they were done that way. The rear springs on almost any of the early cars work just fine with a new rear end so why weld in something that doesn't?
I bought it that way, frame was done, front susp is excellent, rear leafs left something to be desired....
My local spring and trailer shops can make up a new main leaf, do you have Croft trailer up there? If not, Posies would probably be able to help. I would guess the PO wanted to use the wider, newer springs on a new rear, if a torque tube was removed, just didn't plan it too far ahead.
Springs and things http://www.espo.com they should be able to help you out, and their prices are good.
I had City Spring in Ok City OK do mine. There is some place like it in WA. This begs the question why don't you use 49 Plymouth springs? Any way there is more to spring technology than how long they are. If it were my car I';d use 49 Plymouth springs or modify what you have.
I have decided to just find new rear spring perches and attach them to the bottom of the frame. So much easier and less expensive than having the leaves shortened. To answer the question, the frame was done when I bought the car.
