Mine was painted with rust-o-lioum... Over bare metal, has held up for 10 years and sees a ton of use. I rolled it on

I would use ppg direct to metal industrial enamel. you can spray over clean metal eliminating the need to primer it. works awesome

properly prepped, and applied, most any paint will work on a trailer.

when the tires pull up the paint, its because of poor prep and or application rather than cheap paint.

we used to use western enamel, the cheap stuff from early days of earl scheib and car coa type places and it was fine.

on my own stuff id prefer a better grade of paint, but you can go cheap if you prep it right

Powdercoated mine. $700.00 and it still looks great years later, even though it sits in the So Cal sun everyday.

We use rust-o-lioum at my work, (Case-New Holland plant) and it really does hold up well. We put it over bare metal, greasy old paint, roll it on, and it never flakes off and is pretty resilient to abuse the fixtures see.

The problem I see with powdercoat in the north is, you get rock chips in the powdercoat, you can't see them, but they are there. It ****s moisture in there behind the powdercoat, starts rusting behind the powdercoat, then one day you get a huge flake of powdercoat come off and a big rust spot behind it.

but how would that be any different than paint chips? And powder should be more resistant to chips in the first place.

Hot tires will pull the paint off. So let them cool before loading the car.

I live on a dirt road and the trailer paint is deplorible.
I've fixed it several times and it looks worse. Its South west Arizona.

role on bed liner. if you do it right nothing will chip it. I did a whole truck that way and we beat the **** out of that truck and never scratch or anything. Just a thought. dont look that great but fully functional.

I've used the roll-on bedliner inside the fenders and on the front outside of the fenders with success (makes for great rockguard!), but as far as the rest of the trailer, I like paint and pinstriping. Speaking of which, my car hauler that a buddy and I built in 2000 needs paint again. It's very presentable now, but not nearly as nice as after we built it!

I sandblasted mine, used the red oxide primer, than black rustoleum.
been on there for over 12 years now, and it gets used for logging, and car hauling.
next summer it might get a new coat

I rolled and brushed it on
