Been in the planning stages of an early hemi project (aka sitting and thinking 'cause I'm out o' money)... Had been thinking of going '50's style with it; multi carbs. But lately have thought of either going with port injection or blown/injected (have an 8-71 core that looks good) and doing a '60's style engine. Or maybe an injected '50's style. I'm not so worried about making this really 'streetable'; just something that can make it down the road w/o breaking or overheating. And go like hell when the right pedal is stepped on. Hoping some of the H.A.M.B. faithful can school me on fuel pump drives for injectors, timing covers and gear drives (have a 392 roller cam, and expect to change cam drive parts over to the later style), Did all fuel pumps run off the cam, or were there other drive setups that were commonly used? Also, what were guys doing for water pumps when building blown engines? How 'bout anybody building blown/injected engines w/ water pumps? All advice and pics appreciated! -Bill
Been a couple dozen views... nobody knows anything? Bueller... Bueller... anybody... anybody... Hey, I think I just saw a tumbleweed blow across my computer's screen. -Bill
Duuuude, lotta info to cover. Moon makes a neat timing cover for cam driven pumps. Can use a belt driven pump setup(see alchydigger on ebay). The cam driven fuel pump is in the way of the water pump, so you could use a remote water pump. There were some magneto drives that also incorporated an injection pump mount. Do some studying.....Kinsler Fuel Injection has alot of great info. and parts, they're the dirt track guys but do drag stuff also. They also make a neat manual set up for adjustable jetting(pills). You know about pills right? There are some very indepth books on mechanical fuel injection. Fuel Injection Racing Secrets by Bob Szabo is a killer.
Deuce, thanks for the heads-up on that book; I'll have to look for it. George, I had seen Scooter's hemi tech thread, but didn't remember that it had all those links to so much info. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam! '37, yeah, I'm familiar with HHH's stuff. Problem is that so much of it looks modern; and all of it's priced like brand new parts (yeah, I'm cheap). Those roller rockers look really appealing - but cost as much as the entire top end of my last engine (440 Source heads, Smith Bros. pushrods, Comp springs & hdwe, ebay-score Harland Sharp 1.7 rockers, and Herbert lifters). Yeah, I know, I know... it's a HEMI. Thanks for all the suggestions! -Bill
