This may have been covered on here in the past, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good paint for re-painting the engine compartment on my 63 Galaxie? I plan on (carefully) painting it with the engine still in it. It's a daily driver, so it doesn't need to be show quality. Just want to spruce up the engine compartment a bit and clean it up. I want to keep it black, but should I use a hi-heat paint? Any particular brand better than the other?

When i was switching to the last small block i have in my 63 galaxie, i painted it flat black rust-oleum, it was different than straight flat black. I can't remember what it was called, but it was just a spray can, had like diamond plate on the label. Not high temp paint or anything, it was when i did the motor before this one. That was in the spring of last year, i like it it's held up fine, you really don't need anything fancy

A roll of tin foil works great to mask the engine or what ever you don't want painted. It works great!

I just painted the engine bay of our Lincoln with John Deere Blitz Black. Turned our super nice. It was $32 for two quarts and a pint of thinner.

The best stuff that I have found for the factory semi gloss look. WalMart has the best prices. I keep a couple cans in stock.

Krylon Rust Tough Semi-Flat (not semi-gloss, that's a different product). I love the stuff. No primer necessary, shoots nice, blends great, dries fast.

That would be semi flat black and it looks great.

Krylon also has semi-gloss black. Don't ask me to describe the difference.

It seems as though when I first used it about 15+ years ago it was labeled semi gloss, it was #1613 back then. I just when and looked at a can and now it's labeled satin and is #51613. As someone said it blends in great. The entire underside of my cpe was originally done in a low sheen/satin and this is what I use to touch it up periodically. Also have used it quite a bit under the hood and it's held up fine.
