    We seem to be discussing TWO very different types of hand throttles...or other controls. One is as I mentioned in my post above.
    The other is hand controls of various systems to allow those who are unable to operate the standard controls. This group would indluce those missing a limb or in some other way who have not full use of all their limbs. The original question was NOT about these systems, but rather, the type found on boats.......or aircraft.
    Two completely different situations.

    I wonder what makes people feel so free to talk out of their ***es when they have no idea what they are talking about. At least ****ing bother to get the facts.

    Why didn't they turn off the car? It had a keyless ignition switch, so there was no key to turn off. The start ****on actually had to be depressed for 5 seconds or so to turn the engine off if the car wasn't in park. They had no way of knowing this, and it was rental car so they had no reason to even read the owner's manual. I know I don't when I rent a car.

    This police officer and his family members lost their lives, but who cares? If you feel more superior to him, and think it could never happen to you, go right ahead.

    I've been paralized for 28 years and I can tell you about what i've done and what's availale. There are several types of controls available.

    Hand Control Types:
    • Push/right angle style: Push the handle upward toward the instrument panel to brake and pull it downward at a right angle to accelerate.
    • Push/pull style: Push forward on the handle to brake and pull it backwards to accelerate.
    • Push/rock style: Push the handle forward to brake and rock it back to accelerate.
    • Push/rotate style: Push the handle forward to brake and twist it to accelerate. Full or limited finger function is required to operate this control.
    • EMC: Electronic Mobility control. This may be what you're looking for. Perfect for a hi-tech custom installation.vSee Pic below;

    I also ride a Harley and have hand controls (my patent #5299652) that operate using an air/electric system with the push of a ****on using my right thumb, all other controls are as stock and the foot shifter operates normally too. (I don't have a pic because they are completely hidden, so nothing to see.

    My Amphicar has push/right angle style controls with an added hand clutch using parts from an H-D, Intl. Pick up and a Chevy Geo. The clutch, throttle and brakes all work by hand or foot as intended.

    Did that RENTAL CAR accelerate from 0 to 120 at AA/FD speed, so that there was no time to shift into neutral? Seems like the guy in the back seat had enough time to call 911 - maybe he should have just leaned forward and bumped the shift lever out of gear?

    And as far as flames from the tires - come on. With all of the antics that we hot rodders perform with their cars, has anyone ever set their tires on fire? If so, someone please start a thread on that with pictures.

    Sorry, but that car was filled with unfortunates who needed to ask someone's permission before they acted for themselves. People who are aware and are capable of thinking for themselves would not get into trouble like that, and you can take that to the bank my friend.

    I fabbed up a hand throttle as a back up in case my cable broke. A frew weeks ago I fell down and twisted my right knee real bad . As I am 73 years old i don't expect it to heal too quick,When i returned from a 2 1/2 hour trip in my rod yesterday , my knee was hurting so bad i said to my self , looks like I wont be driving it for a while . Then last night I had a brain fart , why not hook up the backup cable and give my knee a rest . I did and it looks like it will work OK . It's hell gettin old , at least my brain isnt dead yet .
