What size rod to peak a hood?

    What size round rod do you guys recommend for making a mean peak on a early 50's rod? Thank you for you time.

    Hi Tyler,

    I would not use rod because of the shrinkage and warpage caused by all the welding that is necessary to pull the job off. I would make a forming tool, pre-stretch the bead area, use the forming tool to make a bead. The forming tool would be like a large dull chisel that you hit with a hammer over a thick rubber pad to absorb the blows. Lots of work and you would need to practice the technique on some s**** first, but an alternative to welding. This can be done using no filler at all if you are patient.

    If you're trying to peak a split hood...try using a peak off of an existing hood. I cut a Nova hood to make the peak in my 48 chevy truck hood.
