I havent found alot of info on old Oldsmobiles. I was wanting to know what kind of rear end does my 98' have stock? It looks like a 9" Ford as theres no rear axle cover it comes apart on the front. I thought I reads it was a "O" type but then I read that was a 442 thing??? I am going to be installing a big block and am not to sure if the rear end would hold up, its no 303 rocket so.... I am on cl***icolds.com or what ever but I like it here the best so, School me! Thanks, Brandon
If my memory is correct?? I believe 49 was the first year for the good Olds rear axle. I think 49-57 are pretty close to being the same. It is a fairly strong rear axle. I ran one in my race car for many years with no problems. Good Luck Little *****
the 48/60 olds rearends are a very good rearends and will take anything you will throw at them ther was a many slingshots of the day with the olds rearend. my 60 had the stock rearend and it took everything a 394 and a 500 caddy could give so injoy any idea of the gears?
Cool just what I needed to hear! I'm not sure on the gears. I am actually droppin in a 500 Caddy. The 98 will be more of a cruiser, that will make noise, and tire smoke! Im just glad I dont have to change the rear end to. Thanks again.
