You put the answer right there. It wasn't an event that attracted Hamb friendly cars. Or the possibility is that there was a HAMB member favored event within easy driving distance that attracted a good number of the cars you were looking for there.

I haven't attended a lot of events in the past several years due to a prohibitive work schedule and the fact that I have had my truck torn down for way too long. But If I go to check out the cars at an event and want to see HAMB friendly cars I find out what kind of cars the event normally has drawn in the past unless I see prior mention of it here.

I guess what I am saying is that if you want to meet up with Hambers at an event you need to do a bit of homework and find out where they most likely will be beforehand. Otherwise just kick back and enjoy being at a car oriented event and don't worry about it too much.

  3. The Joplin and area cruise-ins are for any kind of car you wanna bring.

You'll find some HAMB friendly types and a lot of just nice old cars,
owned by everyday folks who take pride in their rides. Many of them
have never heard of the HAMB or have a clue what it's all about.

I know several guys who have what I consider pretty traditional older
style hotrods. Some (maybe all) of them at least know about the HAMB,
but may not participate. So, there may be some possible new recruits
    in that group.

The only time HAMBers are here in quan***y is for the drags in August.
And then, the party is on..........
I try to attend at least some of the doings.

Oh, by the way......those are the "praying hands", not the clapping
    hands over at Webb City.:D

  6. Went to the KOA Gettysburg Show on Sat 12th. Temp was a sunny 90-95 on the show field, too damn hot to wear a black HAMB t-shirt, so I spread the shirt over the back of the drivers seat and met several other HAMB members. There was even a HAMB parts seller in the parts meet area with a small sign that said "WE SPEAK HAMB", if you spoke up you got a great tasting homemade brownie (I don't think there was any funny stuff in it, but I did feel better all afternoon:rolleyes:). Thanks fellow HAMB'S:D.
Had a few people ask what my HAMB ALLIANCE firewall plaque meant.
Great show all day even with the heat. Chrome It was set up in the vender area and as always had some kool stuff I couldn't live without, thanks Carol & Frank. Got a great looking pinstriped Olds type air cleaner to replace the made in China "nostalgic style" piece of **** I got from Speedway Motors:mad:.

  7. I had a bad experience once ... I asked a guy if he was "on the hamb". Dude got all excited, could hardly contain himself, started spouting off about how much fun it is and that everyone else thinks it's wrong, said something about rubber boots and back legs. This guy was talking so fast I just figured it was some kinda slang for tires and rearends. Took his number down and promised to drop by his place....now that was a mistake. Turns out the guy thought I asked if he was "on the lamb", this gent enjoyed...ahhh...."romancing" sheep, gotta tell ya, most disgusting thing I ever watched:eek:

true...I gave up on cruise nights. They all pretty much ****. Same cars same B/S stories. Most guys I know don't drive their cars anywhere except to a cruise night and just park, pull out the chairs. WOW!!! that's fun I can do that at home in the garage.

We drove by Joplin/Webb City Sat. on the way home from the "Rocket" in Fort Scott. Wet/sun burnt and had a partial hang over, good times.

A great majority of the "cruise night" types in this area are not what I'd deem as computer-handy,so they don't get the HAMB nod.
It takes a different kind of rodder to be a HAMBer? Computer-literate,handy with tools/technology,versed in automotive topics and culture and able to communicate.
    You know,different from other people?

  14. Ya I hear ya. I went to the mall the other day to buy a pair of shoes, but after realizing that nowone there was my facebook friend, I was extremely dissapointed and decided to never go to that mall again.

Well, I didnt exactly find out about the cruise till I was driving through town. At which point, I parked on a in a lot (roads were blocked) walked around for a bit, and enjoyed, but didnt find any reason to pull through road blocks when the cruise was half over...? So my truck, didnt go any further than the lot.

Bah! Secret hand shakes are for people with an organized organization that's all organized and stuff. Quit trying to complicate things so much. Just buy and wear the damn T-Shirts, for crying out loud.

We don't have car shows around here on the weekends, we just sit alongside the highway that runs through town and watch people drive by. Last week we seen one of them newfangled "horseless carriages"!

    X3.

The way I see it.. If we tell everyone then they will think "there's a bunch of nice street rods on there!" or "Oh, that's a nice (r-r-r-a-a.. R-r-r-o-o..), mine would fit in right here!" and they'll become a member. Then there'll be a lot of anti-FNG remarks and a lot of negative vibes thrown around. I would rather see 50 real hot rods on here than try to find 50 real hot rods out of a thousand street rods (and the "other" rods). It's common sense that you have a better chance of survival if you drink a half full gl*** of pure water than a full gl*** of salty water. Same concept.

In my town, I can probably count on both hands the number of people that will truly understand what the cars on this forum is about. I'd rather keep it that way. They go "Hey, Matt, I'm not using this front end on my '46 Ford. Want to buy it for cheap?" and "there's this 3-speed that's taking up space. Want it?"

The last thing the HAMB needs are more "Janes."

My A got " Top 5 award" Sunday, and last month " Peoples choice" at another show. Both Non HAMB shows, about 50 cars each.

I cruise in to the local car shows here always without expectations, and Im always surprised...I let the Car do the talking. My survivor ends up being one of the cars that people re-visit.

31 Ford, A V/8, Patina, Rust, Chopped, Wide Whites, Steelies.....etc.

I'm just the caretaker of the man that owned it.
