i am building a 36 chevy truck. i have a fresh 235 with clifford (solid) cam and and tripple carb set up. i have an oppertunity to purchase a gmc 270, i really want to do a 5 carb set up. i like the way it looks.. i know going with a clifford 4 bbl set up would be alot easyer to tune but i am going for a hotrod look.. besides tuneing carbs is easy.. well to me.. also where can i get the manifold for a 5 carb set up... also would i really notice a difference between my 235 and the 270?

Difference ?? YEP 35 inches makes a diff. Years ago ran a .060 over 261= 270 with 3 carbs made a hell of a diff.

A 370 GMC is an icon in the hot rod world. Be sure to share the engine build with us.

I think Frank ^ means 270, but yes, a noticeable difference. The '38 Chev pickup in my avatar is currently being equipped with a 270. It had one in it many (50) years ago. It is time for another one.

Be aware that there are small port 270 heads and large port 270 heads. Odds say you'll end up with a small port head, but you may luck out and get a large port (1 3/4 inch I.D.).

Patricks has lots of stuff for the 270 gmc along with other retailers. I have a blown 302 Jimmy in my 40 chev pickup. I had no trouble getting what I needed during the buildup. The only gripe I have is the cork gaskets. When I built mine(about 7yrs ago) they didn't have the more modern gaskets. They might now.

Patricks sells the 5 carb manifold . I have ran one for a few years on a GMC 322 ( 302 bored .125), ran good with 5 97s.....
I drive a model A with the 322, have another 322 in my hanbster and a spare 322 as well. You can get parts but you have to look in the old military world......lots of hot rod stuff out thehre as well.

I'm running a basically stock 270 in my '55 1st GMC Suburban. It was in the truck when I bought it and I thought I was going to swap it for a V-8. Eight years later I'm beginning to think about hod rod parts for it instead.

  12. Try Best Gaskets for you Jimmy needs, really good head gaskets as well as the rest. I am freshining up a blown 270 in my '53 chevy truck now. Looling forward to getting it in the truck with a 5spd and 3.73s.
