Gas Gage Bouncing

    can anyone help me out? the gas gage neddle on my '48 chevy p/u constantly bounces. it reads gas in the tank but bounces between full and the level it should stay at. how can i fix this problem? please help.

    check grounds, and a short to the hot wire

    Is the tank behind the seat? Are you sure it isn't just the sloshing gas in the tank causing the float level to quickly change?

    no. the tank is under the bed. it bounces like an electrical problem. it does it even standing still.

    possibly fuelsender itself. from my expeience with the newer junk erratic quages are commonly from sender itself. my 2 cents that are worth nothing

    Some of the old senders have a capacitor in the line to buffer out the sloshes of the tank.

    My 37 chevy did the same thing. Added a ground wire everything was fine.

    ditto to all the above. check for a loose/corroded connection before pulling your sending unit. DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS FIRST!

    where did you put the ground wire? what did u ground?
