so i have been thinking what if "WE" or anyone on the HAMB got together and did our own GUMBALL rally, i saw. what if the gumball rally that we do is pre 63 cars and trucks. a GUMBALL CL***IC RALLY? tell me what you all think i am thinking of doing it if i find enough people when i get back from being deployed. like i said if anyone is down post up...

Been discussed many times here on the HAMB. Bottom line..........if it were feasible in this day of PC **** and over-litigation a**** other issues there would be events going on all the time. As appealing as it might sound at best it would be a watered down, lame, shadow of the origional events.

  3. I'd do it. I built my firebird for things like that, but I still can't find people with the balls to do it. Not enough empty roads anymore. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

I think that last thing on most of us will get pulled over for is lack of traveler comfort.:D

  7. it happens every weekend, there are a billion car shows all over the country to go to now a days and usually the guys (insert any group of guys and gals from anywhere usa) will pick one or three or more and ***emble and drive to the shows, Lonestar round-up is a good example, its not a fkn race, its just fun with the guys and cool cars and good friends.
go racing around anywhere in the states now a days and its a felony when they catch you and they keep your heap as well. Let your junkyard dog out, just keep him in colorado.

I'd like to do something like this too, but it can't be a race, where the winner is the person who gets to the end first. I was in the Great Race twice and I also did a road rally with the Stout auto club. Those were a lot less about the fastest car, and a lot more about following directions and (in the case of the Stout one) collecting points.

The Great Race was a lot of fun, but long (4600 miles over a month, coast to coast) and it was a timed event. As in "drive 3 miles at 42 miles per hour, then turn left and increase speed to 50". They had computerized the route, they knew exactly when you should arrive at each checkpoint, and the directions were purposely vague, to make it tougher and to keep you paying attention. It was a test of driver and navigator skill, not a race.

The Stout one was fun too, it would be a lot easier to write and organize. The directions to that one were more like "Start going north, turn left at the third stop sign. What does the big yellow sign say?" Then you'd write that down. Next instruction might be "Stop at the park and find a pine cone". Then you'd do that and bring it with you. Maybe next would be "turn right on Walnut street. Get a receipt at the gas station for less than $1".

As you would answer the questions or collect the items, you'd earn points. Then it would be calculated how many points you got. Handicaps would be put in place to reward cars by year of manufacture or take them away depending on how fast you finished the course (you don't want someone taking 8 hours to finish to get every answer right, but you can't win just by being first, if you don't earn any points)

Something like that would be a ****load of fun. Car shows are boring, you just sit there. And an all-out race wouldn't be much fun either, the fastest car would win.

something like that sounds fun. but i think there wil be alot of planing still before any of this would kick off,but yeah as soon as i get back from this deployment and finish the car im gonna get it going.

does anyone think of another name for the rally other then the gumball name, something will cl***ic and or hotrod in it. plus if anyone else has any ideas about it shoot them to me or better yet post them up

Isn't there a contemporary Cannon Ball Baker Seat to Shining Sea type event still going on now? Or one lap of American? And of course, there is the race for old cars, America's Great Race or something like that? A little web time might get you some answers. But promoting, organizing, running a HAMB / hot rod style event would be a huge undertaking. Gary
