Well as some know I learned to weld about a year ago and have been practicing whenever/whereever I've gotten the chance. Up to this point it was never on Big Olds. [IMG]

This isn't an earth-shattering tech post BUT because it was my first, I'm kinda proud and I wanted to share this with my buds here. I kinda thought that maybe there might be a person reading this that in the past has thought to themselves that they really wanna try this or that but haven't really gotten motivated. Well I wanna tell you guys that if this old chick can do it, so can you.

Also, I would like to publicly thank both Earl Schieb and Roadstar for taking the time to show me stuff. They both are very patient and always take the time to explain in detail. I'm very, very lucky to have such great guys as mentors. Without further ado here are a few shots that were taken thruout the process.

This was a usless access panel that I wanted covered so I cleaned up the area preparing to weld in a piece of sheet metal that I cut out and bent to the correct shape without kinking it.

    Tacking it in place

    Went slow and skipped around

I am expecting my welding to be critiqued by Sean AKA: BFTWCS. [IMG]

after welding I always have to grind.... I know, I know, where is my protective eyewear. Rest ***ured that was the last time I'll be grinding without the proper equipment. I did learn from you guys's "misfortunes"

Since it was in the high 70's, stuff was put back on Big Olds and he was taken for a spin for lunch.

Once back from lunch my photographer decided it was time for a nap so there are no photos of me mixing my first batch of filler, spreading it on and sanding, but rest ***ured the process was done. [IMG]

Nice job Denise!!! I've seen your patch job on your wooden living room chairs. You have the talent............now just another medium.. [IMG]

  14. Good job hotrodladycrusr.....Looks good. Its really not as hard as it looks is it? I thought it was gonna be a pain in the *** my first time too, but really it just takes patients. Say, I noticed you are wearin' a "Poor Boys" shirt. Are you in the club? Those guys are cool. The Greazys too....maybe someday I can be worthy of a car club..
Anyway, Good work and whats next? [IMG]

  15. Nice job for a girl [IMG]

Actually guys she can weld better than some guys I know that think they know what they are doing. She has a natural talent for it.

That's the best looking shirt of the bunch. Looks good on ya! I'm thinking maybe I need to come hang out at the Garagemahal and learn a trick or two. The Rustosaurous has many holes to be welded up. [IMG]

Looks good Denise! You deffinitly should put safety gl***es over the regular gl***es. Do you remember reading the I got metal in my eye (whatever it was ***led) post about a year ago?

Far as the ear plugs, I only use them when the pannel I work on ressonates the sound or when working inside the cab, so Im not one to talk there. Couse, I have quite a few different sets of ear-plugs from military duty, so its not like I have to go outta my way on that part.

Boy you must be on extended vacation, I wanna go down south and play too!
You know, I don't think I would ever get a new project done with good weather all year round. Usually during the summer the only work getting done is just keeping them on the road. PJ

damn, good job denise. I'm impressed you can weld with those bulky gloves on. My dexterity ****s when those are on so i can't wear em... If i'm Tig Welding i'll put one glove on the hand that holds the Wand.

    rock on Denise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
