I have a rust free '50 ford tudor that had an interior fire so the roof is warped. I bought it like this with the intention of putting a Victoria roof on it. Anyone know if the posts will match up or do I need to replace top of cowl as well? I also thought about grafting the vic roof to the chopped winshield section of the tudor in a way that eliminates the front drip edge that the vic has over the shield. There was a vic that I think was called the Panorama that looks like it was done this way. It allows for a bigger windshield in comparison to the side windows. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks
try posting some pics of you project and even a stock Vicky. have you located a Vicky to look at/measure?
I have the victoria roof that is cut off at the drip edge. I am getting another full donor roof that includes the posts. I guess that I am really wondering if I should got with roof with drip edge above the shield or go without like the Panorama??
As an owner of a 50 coupe and i've had a couple shoeboxes go with the "Panarama" look - that thing is sweet
okay; think on this; the vicky is based on a convertible body and frame and NEEDS to have the extra stiffening built into the body that a coupe/sedan doesn't have. the frame has an x member to help, too. just chopping the top off a sedan and grafting on a hardtop roof won't be easy quick or right. the header bar is different, the door windows are different, the quarters, etc. and so on. i'd hunt down a proper roof if it were my car.
The Victoria doesn't have an X member. They do have an extra plate welded under the frame rails. The roof of any car is what gives it strength. You can remove your '50 roof, but you must put in some temporary bracing before doing so. The windshield is the same on both cars.
In order for it to be right, youre gonna need to use the victoria doors as well...and to go along with that, I think you'll need to use the entire greenhouse, cut below all the gl*** in order for the quarter windows and back window to look right..
One more thing. The doors are different. Also the quarter windows are different. I would forget the whole thing.
he has preety much all the parts to make it a true vicky... so to answer the question at at hand, i like the moulding on the top... i dont usually share my opinion with you but tnite i make exception!! throe a few pics up pinky!
Chopmerc- love your vic- deffinately inspiring my build. Thank you to those with positive encouragement and ideas. I have a donor Victoria that is only good from mid doors up. So I can make this look like a true Victoria. I am certainly not affraid of stiffening up the frame and body. I am still torn about the drip edge above the shield... By the way- I have already had a heavily customized tudor. Its time for something different.
