    Hi Guy's,

While searching AV8 builds a couple of weeks ago I found someone using a 40 Ford X member in a model A frame. Used the search function again but can't find it help!! He had narrowed the height of the X member to fit.

I want to ask the owner a few questions.

    Thanks,

    Alex

That's what I did to my A Frame. Think I did it wrong though because the back end of the X sits too high and the rear of the engine is not level with the front. I need to go back rethink it. I took a pie cut out of the top side of the rear section of the X when I think I should have pie cut the bottom. I was looking to keep the X from hanging down low. It has kind of a "sag" in he middle. The front of the X I pie cut the top side, it's not real pretty right now but it should work when it's all sorted out.

Thanks for the pictures. It gives me some ideas. I have a F1 crossmember but was thinking about going to the 40 Ford crossmember.

    Here's how I did mine:

Cross member tech for the AV8 guys

The transmission mount was a little too high and as a result my engine was dead level which always bothered me a bit. So I would do that differently if I built it again. Instead of mounting the transmission to the top of the X I would rework the stock mount and put the transmission mounting ears right below the top of the X then holesaw it right above the engine mount nut for access.

Bass' was a '32 but yes, he has done it a few times I think.

I was given an old book with some tech for this after I did mine. I was just using what I could get my hands on at the time and honestly it was pretty poorly planned. I just happened to get very lucky with my placement of things.

There is an add in Rod&Custom for X members made for a model A frame, they look good.

I just picked up a 40 Ford X member from another Hamb member for $60. I'm going to mock it up and see how it will fit.

  11. damnit, I wish I could find a x-member local for 60 bucks!
