well,i have almost got this crunchy turd ready to run down to the HRR at BG. i gotta get my lights all hooked up and a few little minor things. been working on her every couple of days as i have time. i picked this car up from a fellow hamber here (from alabama, can't for the life of me think of his name) as a roller with a ton of previous work gone terribly, terribly wrong.lots of sheet aluminum, spray expandable foam and screws,...you get the picture. now it has actual steel floorboards, trans hump, and firewall. so,now that i pretty much have her straightened out,she is road worthy. already had a 70's camaro front clip,so i left that, power is tired old sbc/auto,7.5 10-bolt rear, and about every single usable part from a 79 elcamino donor car i had. i mean everything i could use, engine, trans, rear, brakes, radiator, wiring, column, seat, gas tank, etc. so here she is in all her surface rusty glory............
Yeah that things askin for some new wheels. Cool project. I love those cars. Black steel wheels and wide whites and it's good to go.
thanks for the kudos. i finally remembered who i got the car from on here,it was memeber 343w. i am not usually a 40's-50's kind of guy (60's-70's mopar muscle fan....no flaming.lol) but i have always liked the 46-48 fords. this ole rig has been fun so far,and it's coming along. i am on the hunt for new wheel and tire combo, but, the overall appearance of thr car will remain unchanged. i will likely add the chrome grill parts and some sheetmetal valances where the bumpers were, but no paint other than some dulled clear to preserve the patina. not a big fan of fancy finished out rods. gonna enjoy her just like she is. and drive the **** out of it. look forward to seeing a bunch of HAMBer's at the HRR.
it's only a rat if you're content with it looking like a pile of ****. if you plan on working on it some more, it's a project.
put some paint on it, the old "patina" with flat clear look is so over-used, that would be a beautiful car with paint.
I've never understood the patina look. Primer, yes. Even a satin finish. But rust? That car deserves better. But what do i know. I'm just a grouchy old *******.
there's a guy locally that has a really nice old lowered chevy fat fender pickup. it's got a pretty weathered finish with some light surface rust, worn paint and all that. it's got a nice interior and nice (i think they're ugly) wire wheels. it's got that "old farm truck" look, but lots of modern conveniences. i really dig it and i couldn't imagine painting it. but to each his own, some guys take the patina too far, some guys take the paint too far.
I think that beater or jalopy is more appropriate. Well on your way to a smooth old coupe. Running and driving that's a ton of close to being done.
Might consider finding the chin panel (might not be the right name) for a 42-46 Ford for the front sheet metal valance you refer to. They're a little different than the 47-8s.
How about ---my ratty 47 Ford?---you will catch a lot of flak about the other term here. Nice little coupe you have there, and each to his own, but the patina thing is a little past its popular time. Of course thats only my opinion, but a nice coat of primer instead of the clear would clean it up and protect the metal would be another choice. The car will still have a plenty of rustic appeal, as you have the makings of a cool little hot rod going on. Not trying to stomp on your parade at all, just lettin you know how most of us view the "R" subject. Have a good time with that dandy. ~Sololobo~
welp,we have all working lights and a few gauges. using the el-co wiring harness made it easier. it even has that annoying buzzer if you leave the lights on and turn off the key. i am ready to head out in her,now that i have put about 100 miles on it since getting her going. see some of you folks in BG.
