I didn't see your post and I added some pics too, I have a few leaning toward 40 fords since I am working on mine, and my dad drag races a 67 cuda so I definitely have some wheel standing pics of the HEMI CHALLENGE. I got a few videos of the Top Fuel Front Engine Dragsters but I can't figure out how to load them.

Ok, I'll be the first to admit it. What am I looking at here, I assume it's some sort of fuel injection but I've never seen one like it.

  12. Great pics and excellent commentary. I can think of at least one traditional rod and culture mag that should hire you.

Well, I took my 14 year old granddaughter; it was her first time to a drag strip. We no sooner walked to the fence by the starting line, we weren't there 15 minutes, and one of the guys from Hellzapoppin' thows her a tee shirt. That was cool enough for her, but then as we walked around later, I showed her the car again and we went over to their pit area. The guys there really treated her well, and remember that she was one of the kids who got a shirt. That was really great of them; it's obvious they love doing this kind of stuff, and my granddaughter thought her day was made.
I'm sorry I didn't get all of your names, guys, but you were great! Now, they threw her a shirt that fits her; she's holding one in the picture that probably fits you. You should buy one from these great guys!

But that wasn't all, either. A short way through the pits, we're walking along and I'm explaining things on the cars and what they do, what era, etc, and we come upon the Scorpion, Bobby Langley's '57 full bodied dragster. Before we even stop long enough for me to have her read the billboard for the car's history, a guy asks her if she'd like to sit in it. So we help her in and the next thing I know, the guy fires it off with her sitting in it! I think she jumped a bit when those weed burners lit off, but she was paying attention and listening to everything Don said to her. She loved it! Thanks to Don Ross and Bill Crosby for that. Talk about making her day! The car is running in all these pix. I think she's hooked. I told her about the way car people cross all socio-economic barriers in a way few other hobbies or businesses do. You guys, and some others today (Barbra Hamilton) really showed her how great we all can be. Super day, super people, this is really what it's about. She was wiped out when we finally left, but was still just wound up about all the fun and excitment she had. Thanks to all involved!

    Nice variety of pics.....Thanks

  17. Now that's a great first trip to the dragstrip, hooked for sure I'll bet!:D Very impressive, putting her in the dragster like that.

  18. Happy for you and your grand daughter, that's the way to build a fan base, and get youngsters involved in the sport. Drag racing is one of the few sports where you can get close to the partisipants.

Storm King, So cool that your grand daughter shows interest in cars. Cooler yet, her grandfather brought here with him to help instill that interest. Ain't nothin' sweeter than being with your grandkids doing something you both enjoy. She'll have this sweet memory long after you're gone. Fred

Thanks for sharing. Nothing better than an outing with your grandkids. I'm sure she will remember that day for a long time.

Donn Ross & Bill Crosby are #1 guys and great ambassadors to the Nostalgia scene.
Don has restored and recreated many Division 4 legandary fuel cars. They are also
responsible for the Cackle fest and fuel car gathering at Ardmore Dragways Hot Rod Reunion, in Ardmore Oklahoma. If you have a chance put it on your to do list.
I understand 240 Gordie Bonnin will be here this year, plus many more.

Thanks everybody! That is one awesome show/drag race/party! If you've never been, words can't describe how much fun it is to watch vintage Top Fuel Nitro cars do their burn outs twenty feet away. The nitro burns your eyes, the burnt rubber smell mixed so perfectly with that sweet smell of nitromethane, the concussion in your chest from the engines that feel like they could shake the earth out of orbit, I could go on and on. Then you've got a car show with 1,400 cars, 300 old drag cars racing, a swap meet, fools partying all night in the campground, random massive widespread burnouts breaking out at midnight in the campground. And then there's the cackle fest. 30 or so legendary race cars from Top Fuelers to Altereds to Gassers all revving in a line at the same time. Legendary drivers more than willing to take the time to talk to you and answer stupid questions. Big Daddy Don Garlitts was even letting little kids sit in his car for pics.

Now try and think of another lame excuse for why you can't go next year. :D
