I've decided to build a Dragula car from the Munsters TV series - as accurate as I can to the original. I plan on running a complete Mopar drivetrain (318 or 360) and I already have a dead-match NOS Casket from the 1960's. I am looking for a drop axle set up like in this photo and to learn how the steering linkage all works and how to set it all up. I seek your advice, knowledge and help; I was pointed to this board from over at Moparts.com. Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all during this project. Wile E. Coyote Super Genius
Dragula!! I used to be so damn facinated by the Munsters cars when i was a lil squirt. Glad to see someone doing this and look forward to updats.
Heh,heh he said "dead match" on a casket. No, really, google the Munster Koach, there's a good page for the Dragula on that site (www.munsterkoach.com or something similar). I think someone just did this not too long ago... I vaguely remember someone else building one. Good luck! JK
<<I think someone just did this not too long ago... I vaguely remember someone else building one. Good luck! JK >> Eric Sharp did both of them in San Jose 15 years ago, then did Black Beauty (Green Hornet ride) Dragula was a new casket, on a tube frame, with a 500 Kawasaki engine, he showed it once, and Mr. George Barris warned him about plagiarizing a copyrighted product. (Eric thought he was kidding, but we ***ured him George never kids about $$, design, or patent infringement!)
Isn't the original or a replica hanging in the Hard Rock Cafe, or Planet Hollywood? One of those trendy L.A. spots. Might want to go there and take photos for reference. The movie with the Dragula race, Musnter Go Home is on DVD; I have it, but there aren't many closeups as far as I remember.
You can copy one for your own use, as long as you don't sell them, or use the name. Nothing wrong with a little "homage" if that's your cup of tea, car wise.
The original WAS hanging in Atlantic City, NJ until the restaurant closed down at the casino a year or two ago now. No one has been able to find out where it went since. Someone on the munstercoach.com site did get up on a ladder and do just that before it closed. I'd post over there where a few guys who built replicas hang out including the guy who took all the photos.
NOS 60's casket!..how the hell? someone has had a casket sitting around for 40 to 50 years..strange.. kick *** idea ..lets see it..as you progress
You can build a replica barris batmobile, you just cant call it that or make money off of it at shows and such.
Seems like Dennis Taylor, the former purveyor of gl*** Willys from Arkansas, built one a few years ago. I remember his old website having a few shots of him driving it.
I heard about that car going up for sale but don't know were it went. i have a friend who's a Munsters nut and he went to L.A. from Chicago to look at that car, said a lot of stuff was missing and it was ruff from what he could tell, since it was still in hanging mode. I seem to remember reading that 3 were bilt in the 60's, 2 for the show and 1 that toured drag strips making runs to promote the show. I know Volo Auto Museum in Volo IL. has one, but I'm not sure of it's pedagree or if it's a repop. As far as the front axle, I think it maybe a Bell also, with motorcycle front rims and tires Good Luck with the build!.
i have a old casket as a broom closet in the garage. was thinking about making a planter out of it for the front yard.
The wheels are English Speedsports. Does anybody know if the carb scoops were over the counter or hand made?
