Used for OT trailer. Where my dad lives they had some really huge hail and he's got some semi reefer trailers that the hail went clear through the aluminum tops. He was asking me about a simple and fast way to repair them. I thought of the body adhesive that modern companies use to glue on some door hinges and such, he could glue some aluminum patches on. So I'm trying to get some more info for him, what kind of prep work is needed? How well does the stuff really work? If he properly preps it they aren't going to come flying off going down the highway right?
He would be fine if properly prepped. Basically he will need to sand down to bare metal with 80 grit apply the adhesive as per instructions on cartridge clamp in place for required time and he should be good to go. They are strong enough to hold on a roof skin so a few patches will be no problem. Evercoat make some that come in a standard caulking type cartridge but are still 2K so you don't need the expensive gun that all the other companies require to dispense. http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=241
Lord Fusor is one brand I have used. Good stuff. Your local paint jobber will be able to recommend something.
Both the Fusor and the 3M are about the same here $40-$50 a cartridge the Evercoat goes for about $35.
Arent those Reefers Trailers Rivited as well? Thats going to be alot of Glue?? K13 has pretty much explained the procedure...
Hey I am a 3M Rep!!!! 3M 8115 Panel Bonding Adhesive bonds to disimiliar substrates. It adheres to steel, SMC, Fiberglass, Aluminum or any combination of those materials. It needs bare metal to bare metal bonding surface or roughed up SMC or FRP ( 50 - 80 grit ). It has built in corrosion properties for metal applications. This will hold the patch panel on with no problem. If you have any other questions PM me and I will be glad to help.
