Day 2 leaving the Holiday Inn Express in New Mexico. I forgot to take pictures of my custom windows.... I used huge garbage bags to keep the inside dry. Had one heck of a rain storm the night before and I was outside watching the clouds. They said there was golf ball size hail a few miles to the east of us so thank god it didn't nail the 33 and the Sled. The 25 RPU was in the trailer. On the news they claimed to have had 6" hail in Texas in the storm we sped past.

Oh I guess I should add that the kwik top I ordered didn't come in so after a brief phone fight I gave up and built this top frame on Wednesday, had it upholstered on Thursday and installed for the trip on friday. It looks pretty good for the time line involved, I was a little worried about getting fried in the desert....with good reason.

    On the road again...

Stopped for gas and ran on to a route 66 museum/retail kinda place. $5 per person to see 30 cars...just looked around in the retail side and took a few pics. (I tried to turn these and couldn't figure it out so just tilt your head sideways:D)

Close to Arizona tourist trap before the rest area.

My son is at the age where poisonous snakes, scorpions, spiders,.... anything deadly intrest him. The whole way across New Mexico he would say...That looks like Rattlesnake heaven out there...I'll bet we could find a million snakes. He was looking at the rest area.

Please tilt head to side. Thank you! (I will change these when I get home. Yes I tried to use the turn this clockwise on my pics wouldn't work and I ain't got time to mess with it now)

Rolled out of here and beat a path(seemed like a path. those roads are rough) to Flagstaff Kids found the place they wanted to be right away.

Day three did not start good.

Took the camshaft out of mine could not hear it when I shut it off hot the night before but when I started it cold the next morning you could. I am going to try and Idle it in and out of the show, I guess I will see what happens.

Cory didn't want his wife driving the trailer down the Mountain and he was fine with his going in because that was the plan. I jumped in the rolling leather couch with wheels ( Jim's 33). That thing rides sooooo nice. I would like to give a plug for Gary at Cornhusker. This car is set up with one of his ch***is. Buggy spring in the front and rear and the ride and handling is so good you almost can not believe it!! Thanks Gary. (bought my 32 cowl vent from him too.)

This was a huge dissapointment,I worked a lot of hours (so much the Ellis police ask if I was living at the shop as they noticed I was not going home much...small town ha ha.

I wanted to drive my roadster all the way there but at least we had made provisions for two in the trailer so it was not a trip ender.

I will end this update on a positive note..

Hoover is a cool place and a must see. I am off to look at the Hollywood sign. I will post more when I have time...Mike

  4. The truck or the Car...? All three are awesome...!

Awesome Mike... totaly enjoy your thread... I'm vicariously traveling with you on this vacation!

How much quieter is the car with the completed interior and full exhaust?

This is a trip of a lifetime for the whole family and hardships just make the story more interesting.

Wow... The "Rocket Sled" never looked so good!

It's come a long way from this...

Thanks for the feedback guys, this is a trip I have been wanting to take for a long long time. Even with the difficulties it is still the best trip I have ever been on! The time of my life to tell the truth.

In the morning, I am gonna try to file down the rocker stud to get the rocker into adjustment so it ain't hammerin. I know I should not run it but I am gonna drive that S.O.B. in the show on Sat and Sunday at all cost!

Kids are in the pool I better get back to them.

I am just getting ready to leave for home. I will do the rest of the trip on Wednesday or Thursday.

Filed off the bottom of the roller rocker to get it to adjust so it was not pounding, drove down to the show on Sat morning and drove out on Sunday. Hope it didn't hurt it any more but if it did at least I made the show.

  13. I have always said that the whole point of going to a show is the driving part..

I have no interest in trailering a car to a show parking for 2 or 3 days and then trailering home??? yes I did this at GNRS this year but that was a special deal..

I know for some showing is cool, and I dig nice show cars and indoor shows. but for real enjoyment nothing beats rolling down the road and getting thumbs up from other folks.

You guys did it the right way, in my opinion, and having your families and kids is the real icing on the cake.. you are making lifetime memories with them, Good Job and keep the story going. thanks...

****... Bad fuel at Bolder City Nevada.... Made it to Victor California to a truck stop parking lot. Sent the families in to eat at Wendy's while we ran down the fuel filter and wrench at pep boys...not much time loss... maybe 15 minutes at the most. Felt like the dad on Christmas story changing the tire... TIME ME!

Made it to the hotel at around 7 Monday night. Tuesday was beach day.

On the way to Newport we came across a ferry..never had a car on one and it was only $5 so what the hell, on with the Excursion. Kids thought it was pretty neat to have our car on a boat. We thought we were going to Balboa island, only problem was we were on the island(went over on a bridge) and the ferry took us back to the main land Peninsula. We didn't figure it out until we left(on the ferry again) Ha Ha

    Newport beach and beautiful weather.

First time for my kids to see the ocean. Big stuff for Kansas kids.

We ate on the pier at Ruby's... Sat outside upstairs.

I don't care for the green upholstery but the car is awesome. Didn't take a pic of the outside but the floor is a work of art.

This is ok if your into that sort of thing
    [IMG]

    Same with this one

I love this car. Been on here before but I liked this shot.

    I love a nice ***.

What did you say? Can't hear you

    Green!

Nice cluster Alan Johnson's I think.

I laughed when I turned around and saw this. I just looked underneath it as it is an original Cobra... Just a funny shot I thought.

I filed off the bottom of the rocker and drove the car from Corona to Pamona on Sat Morning. We left around 6:00 and it was one of those drives that I will remember for the rest of my life. Only 25 miles or so but it was beautiful...top off... 65 degrees...sun rising...Chino hills... on the way to the roadster show...Hell yes!!!!

Hit a bump and got a shot of the side of my head. What kind of a dumb **** trys to take pics and drive?

What a great trip, it is very generous of you to take us along. Really enjoyed all the shots, even the side of your head, the kids will remember this forever. Sweet trio of roadsters, nice kudos for Gary at Cornhusker ch***is, just the best. So happy you were able to drive the rpu to the show. Thanx again for the trip. ~Sololobo~
