I put a 1 inch square tube floor in my channeld 37 pickup. I can't decide if I should use metal or plywood for the floor. Your opinion?
in my A i did 3/4" hard wood...the original hard wood floor in my A lasted 82 years.( i would have re used it, but this looked better) it insulates from heat.. and from sound.. what ever you wanna do man. I think it looks kick ass and the new finishes of today are very resiliant
I'm a believer in wood, it absorbs sound, won't rattle and if sealed correct it will last a long time.. Duane.
I like to have nice hard steel under my ass when I am flying down the highway at 70 mph, if you like the wood look put some over the steel.
Wood adds more thickness. Don't know if you're chopped and/or channeled but the wood will put your head closer to the roof. Otherwise I think a decent ply is as protective as your typical sheet metal floor. My RPU floor is eighth inch steel...channeled body without something like your usual 1" square stock framing. Totally got around the issue of adding floor thickness to a lowered body.
Both? Channel the floor down to thickness of the wood and throw the wood on top... Does that make sense? Always thought about doing something like this. I guess it would be a faux wood floor? Hahah.
I like solid hardwood but am not so sure about plywood. The veneer on plywood is quite thin and can be chipped through quite easily. I guess though if you are not going for looks then it doesn't matter.
About 20 years ago a Street Rod magazine did a test with a bunch of heat and sound barrier products. The wood floor with carpet pad won. Bet they wouldn`t publish that today, to many advertising dollars to lose. I`m sure technology has changed since then.
