I'm kicking around the idea of replacing the TH350 in my car with a 200-4R. The mounts are the same and the OD trans is the same phyiscal size as the T350. I will have to modify my trans mount which is not a huge issue. My big question is how will I hook uo the TV cable? 6 banger carbs are mounted sideways as opposed to SBC carbs. Anyone ever do this setup?? Thanks, Todd
Check with Langdon's. He has all the goods for straight 6's. And I'm sure he's done it before. This link is for early 6's, but might be helpful. http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/howto/trans.htm
You will also like the 1st gear ratio etc. Its nice , and the cruising is not bad either . Used this set up behind a very small SBC and loved it , longdon has the goods as stated.
10 years ago I put a 700r4 in a guys 250/6 pickup. I used 2 of the bell housing bolts and made a stiff bracket from 1x1 angle as I recall. I was not a bad job to figure out the linkage.
Hey Tugmaster, please post up what you find out. Friend of mine just gave me a 2004R to replace the Powerglide behind my 250 too. 2004R's have the same physical dimensions as my Powerglide. Don't know what to do with that TV cable with my stock single barrel carb either. Thanks!
I talked to Tom Langdon today and I also called Bow Tie Overdrives. BTO said if I sent them a decent pic of my carb and manifold setup they could hook me up with the right TV bracket. The tech gut said that they have done or ***isted customers with this many times. Todd
Can you share some feedback with us? How is it working out for you? Any adjustment problems? Thanks, Todd
While I have nothing against trhe 700R4, especially for towing, the 200-4R is pretty much the same weight and physical size as the TH350, uses the same yoke and driveshaft, has a more even gear spread and doesn't cost anymore than a 700R4 to beef up to handle some healthy HP and TQ and that's not even an issue here. In fact it doesn't rob as much power as the 700 which could be an issue. The 700 will require a driveshaft alteration or change, may hit the floorboard and costs just as much as a 200-4R to build properly. I know several people that went with the 200-4R and are tickled to death. I knew of one behind a 12 second 455 powered Olds Vista Cruiser. One of our friends took 10 years to convince he needed to replace his PG and 3.08 gears with a 200-4R and 3.73's. Now he won't use anything else. I'm keeping a core under the bench for my next automatic equipped project.
That ****** is used in the Buick Grand National too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3TNoRS6vSA&feature=related
TCI has a constant presure valve body for the 200-r4 , I have one in my 700r4 , it allows you to adjust the tv cable and not worry 'bout burn'in it up.
