Ok, long shot but I figure if I don't ask the question, I have no chance of getting an answer. After looking for the last two years, I finally found a 1946 Arkansas "1/2 ton truck" license plate to put on the '46. Problem is, although it's not dented, pitted or bent in any way, the original paint is worn off. I'm wanting it restored. Does anyone have any idea what the original colors would have been? I'm thinking it may have been black with white lettering. Arkansas had several different plates for '46, and they apparently painted each variation differently. I've saw big truck plates one color and passenger car plates another, but I haven't saw a "1/2 ton truck" plate in good enough condition to tell what color it was- they appear to be rare.
Thanks for the tip,"been there, done that" but as I stated in my original post, my plate is a "1/2 ton truck" plate with that wording embossed on the bottom of the plate. Different plate, possibly different colors, as I've saw Arkansas plates for that year white with black letters, black with white letters and yellow and black if I remember correctly. Depends on what vehicle they were issued for. Ha! While I was posting a reply, you edited yours, lol. Thanks for the help anyway.
They may change year to year. I've got a 53 and a 56. One is red w/white letters and the other looks like blackw/white leters. They just say truck.
Ya, sorry, I get excited. . I met that Larry guy yesterday at a swap meet and he was very knowledgable. I didn't see anything on his site, but you might call him because he had lots of older stuff. He had plates that could be registered ( numbers not in use.) I believe he said he was a police officer. Good luck. -mikethegreek-
