I have a '54 235 and a Tattersfield intake which is supposed to fit the 216 head. I ordered the alignment rings from Larrowe and Sons. Tried to put the rings in the intake side and they will only go about 1/2 way into the port. Should alignment rings fit snug, be easy to install / remove or require to be set in with a rubber mallot? Sorry of this is a stupid question. This just happens to be my first time messing with this. Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance for your help.

The alignment rings are only going to work if you are using a 235 intake and a 235 head. Unless you bore the 216 intake to accept the rings, they will not work. If you don't want to modify the intake, don't use the rings just bolt it up.

  4. There is a difference between alignment rings and 216 -> 235 adapter rings......

Sorry, I may not have painted the correct picture. I am aware of the different size ports from the 216 and the 235 and You can put a 216 intake on a 235 head without machining out the port on the intake by using the alignment rings which are sold by Larrowe and Sons etc... Forget I said anythign about the 216/235 and ***ume that I am asking about rings for a 235 intake and head .My question is not why wont it fit but more, are the rings supposed to slide in and out with ease or should they be snug.

  6. All i can say is that dont remember having to hammer them in..... If that helps.

I was helping my dad, and i do remember we had to file down one side, maybe both sides of the rings to avoid a vacuum leak between the intake/manifold.

Slip fit. Might take a tap with a hammer, might not.
