hase anyone prayed hok clear over a dupont base. I guess hok doesn't mix factory colors so I have to go the local jobber and they deal in dupont. I am doing a pearl job on the roof and am using hok for that then clear with hok over the pearl roof and dupont base on the rest of the truck. just wondering if the too are compatiable

That's exactly what we use at my shop ( premiercustompaint.com ) if HOK doesn't have the base color we need. Excellent results!

Make sure if you need to recoat something let it sit for awhile as its very finicky and may lift.

Yeah...I do it all the time, when I use HOK colors and stock colors on a wild paint job.

dupont and hok mixed are finiky, out of all the cross mixing with hok, dupont is one ive had/heard of problems with. more so the chromabase and hok base. i would do a test panel.

what stock color are u needing? hok can be mixed with itself to make colors. ive made matches to colors that ive had to touch up on the spot type of a deal.

watch the recommended flash times between coats, and every thing should be cool, when crossing just about any thing nowadays.
There were problems in the 90s but I think the greasy basecoats are all gone now.

I would get dupont clear and be done with it. Some brands are ok, others don't play as well together. I never used Hok as I only use Dupont.

Ya know....you could always have the color ya need mixed in Valspar, as they can be mixed in any factory color. Valspar makes HOK, so compatibilty is never an issue...
That and it most likely will be cheaper than DuPont.
