Hello, I'm a new guy here and have some questions. I own a '55 chevy 2 dr sedan and want to run g***er cl***. Is there anywhere that has a rulebook for g***ers. I know some of the basics like 24" crankshaft height, 10% engine setback, fibergl*** tilts and doors. What I don't know is stuff like cylinder head rules, ignition systems, tire sizes, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, G***er Norm
There's a bunch of old g***er guys on here, maybe one has an old rulebook layin' around. That's probably your best bet is meet an old g***er racer and pic his brain. Hey I just noticed your from Raymore, do I know you? Make us all happy and tell us a little about yourself.

try geezer g***ers ( ithink thats the way it is ..could be g***er geezers...) or the east coast g***ers.....both run similiar deals.....would be worth a shot.....both have websites....brandon

Thanks for all the feedback. The Geezer G***ers don't allow anything newer than '52, so that is out. When are the HAMB drags this year and where at? I want to build a g***er but don't want to be knocked for aluminum or dart heads, msd ignition, etc. I'm trying to plan this out so I won't be turned away if I can make a race or two this year. As with the ol' g***ers this will be street driven, but not very tame.
No date on the drags yet. The rules are basically ya run what ya brung. They'll be at MOKAN (down by Joplin) you can follow us down if ya want. Now as for your g***er rules you gotta figure what gas cl*** you're shootin' at. IE D/G, B/G etc, and the rules changed with time. Wheel base, displacement etc. So it really depends on what era of G***er raceing you're shootin' at and what cl*** your lookin' at. Now back to my question, have we met?

You can run 55 Chevy's, but you must have period correct wheels, paint, hood scoops, ect. engine and driveline can be moderen, but I don't think you can run electronics.
Sounds like you're lookin' for modern day rules, so you can run your car anywhere, right? If it p***es NHRA tech, you'll be good where ever you go. I run at a lot of Goodguys events, and they won't let you run with "electronics", like the new MSD stuff, or any crossovers, delays, etc, but that's all bracket racer stuff that you won't be doin' anyway, from the sound of it. Otherwise, they just go with NHRA rules, like all the other promoters do...I'd get an NHRA rulebook, and build a car that'll p*** tech for whatever time (ET) you think this thing's gonna run, and leave yourself room to add on more cage tubes and bracing in the future, 'cause you KNOW you'll be turnin' up the wick on it after a while...MoKan has been REAL casual with tech inspection for the hamb drags, but I sure don't expect that to last for long - the track has to consider liability at some point...Good luck, and above all else, be safe and HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are no g***er cl***es anymore, unless you belong to one of the exhibition groups (Geezer G***ers, East Coast G***ers, Etc.) or run AA/GS in Goodguys. You can run what you want for a motor, doesn't matter. If you want to make your car look like a real g***er, remember to letter it correctly for the cl*** (Blown, Unblown), and leave off the wings and streamlining. No Nitrous. Don't alter the wheelbase. Buy some old Hot Rod mags and see what the cars looked like at the time. Most Tri-5s were C/G, D/G. Tires and wheels should look period, but wrinklewalls are better if you have any kind of horsepower. Sorry Porkn******s 'bout not introducing myself. I get a little carried away at times. I'm from Raymore, MO, 39, with a wife and two kids. I used to street/bracket race back in the early '90's, I had a '80 firebird (12.37/113) and later a '69 firebird (12.68/108). I sold the '69 in '95 and haven't had a hot rod since then. I bought my '55 off of ebay as a present for myself after I returned from Iraq in Feb '04. I've put a tilt front end that was found in a field, I radiused the rear wheel wells and attempted paint (first time). My daughter named it "Betsey" and that was changed to "Outlaw Betsey" after the first time I drove it, the Raymore police pulled me over for running open fenderwell headers. As of now I am saving money for a front end rebuild (stock a-arms). Motor is a very, very tired '73 chevy 350. I talked to my machinest (Kevin at K&M) about building a chevy 301/302 but that's another 4-5k. So it won't happen this year, maybe next. ****** is a '68 muncie m-22 and the rear is a rebuilt chevy 12 bolt with eaton posi with 4.30 ratio and moser axles. I have '71 cragar s/s 15x4 in front and 15x10 chrome reverse (wheel vintiques) in back. Interior is '75 mustang2 front buckets with head rests removed and a '93 caprice rear seat. I have a '55 rear seat springs in my shed just waiting to be recovered. No door panels. Whatever money I get from overtime and what I can scrounge up goes into my '55, and I have alot of stuff to fix. I made one car show/cruise in Belton main street in September. I was the only '55 that was different than anyone elses (john deere blitz black). Do you go to the main street cruise's in Belton? Yea we idle down 2 or 3 times a year. I try to hit it in the spring and about mid summer then again for Pete & Jakes. I think that Mike Mike Landwehr up north has an old NHRA rulebook if you're lookin' for period correct rules. I think unless you're a purest these days its more about the look. I don't recall your '55 but that doesn't mean I didn't see it sometimes I suffer from sensory overload. Let's try and hook up for burgers sometime. And welcome aboard.
That burger idea sounds good. Do you like Max's Autodiner? Remember Jan 4th? the big sleet we had? I was walking my mail route and was on the corner of 70th and Oak, it was sleeting heavily at the time and no one was out 'cept me. I heard this rumbling noise and looking up into the sleet and saw "The koolest guy in KC" Here comes this roadster, with no windshield or top, no engine cowling, no fenders, painted flat black with steelies. The Dude was wrapped in a scarf and a stocking cap, all I could see was his eyes and they were squinting from the sleet. He drove his rod through that weather up the hill on Oak and continued past Gregory. This Dude had found hot rodding zen. At that moment I knew I had alot to learn about hot rodding.
Dirty2, I'm trying to get it together, I want to drive the hell out of it this year. I want to go the dragstrip and lay down some p***es. I have alot planned but no real plan. Does that make sense? Hey, to get the front end of your car up in the air a little more (with the stock front suspension), use 6cyl heavy duty coil springs. Station wagon springs in the rear will get it up a bit, too. It won't be mile-high 4x4 lookin, but it will sit right! I've got a 'gl*** nose on my '57, no front bumper, no inner fenders, etc., and there's probably 6 inches of daylight between the top of the 14-inch tires and the fender opening. Tall white-wall pie crusts out back make the car sit level. -Brad
I've been trying for a while to get someone to start a "cl***" for true vintage g***ers. I mean the early '60's ones, not the late '60's ones. Like all drivetrain must be factory stuff made prior to a965. NO BBC's, NO late hemi's, NO Powerglide, TH400, or Lenco trannies, NO aluminum or aftermarket heads, etc. I mean, powertrains like you'd see in the early '60's. Buick nailhead, early Cad, early Olds, early Hemi, FE Ford, W-head Chevies, 430 Lincolns, etc. SBC's welcome, IF they have 283 blocks and pre-'65 factory iron heads. Dual-range hydro's of course would be the norm for trannies here. But, NOBODY wants a cl*** like that. They feel that there would be only one or two cars at best, because everyone wants BBC engines, or contemporary SBC's, and things like that. I can see their point for sure, but I have never really seen any true vintage g***ers ever make a p***.

Brads54, I bought some moroso trick springs for the front. They are real long, hopefully when they go in there they will raise that front end an inch or two. I've been looking for some ball joint spacers, do you have any leads on them? As of right this instant I have 2" lowering blocks on the rear, it gives the appearance of my front end being higher than it really is. If the trick springs work like I hope, I will remove the lowering blocks and be set. Before I di***embled my front suspension I had 5" of clearance between my front tires and the lower fender lip, it was alot but I want more. I would like to see your '57 if you get a chance.
