Chevy straight 6 guys (230,250,292) what are you using for an a/c compressor bracket?

My wife wants me to have a/c in the truck for the kids. I am trying to locate a compressor mount for a Sanden style compressor. I have a York style mount and can use an adapter, but the mount is pretty obtrusive and sticks way up on the passenger side. Any body got some ideas?

    Right now the cowl vent.....:D

I did find a aftermarket a/c bracket but they said I couldn't use the tall HEI that I am using. Also would put me back in the search for pulleys etc. I am so frustrated with the headaches I have went through so far that I'm not ready to search again.

Another company has an a/c bracket that goes where the altenator generally is and then the altenator sits over the compressor. No power steering.

When I find my notes on both I will PM you.

Thanks for the input. I used to install a/c systems and I have seen and installed the bracket that goes in place of the alternator that you are talking about, just can't find find one now.

I'm in the process of getting some made in stainless steel. Works with HEI too...

  9. Is there such a thing as a factory bracket.. maybe on late Nova and clones or the first couple years of Malibu that had the 250? Probably not super common.

I've seen early '70s 250s with factory A/C, but only one or two over the course of many years. I would imagine that the yards in the Southwest (if there are any left) would be a better bet for finding some.

If it would work on my setup I'd take one.

I have one of the factory units-it was made for the round (rotary?) compressor. Will the Sanden type fit? Found mine on a pick-up truck

Grove makes one, I think I paid about $25.00. Mounts on the passenger side.

I'm in the process of getting pricing on it and I hope to have them done by the end of June.

My bracket works with any distributor and either deck height. Only stipulation is that you can't use the rear groove for the belt. Any 2 or 3 groove setup will work as long as you use one of the forward grooves.

P/S with the newer Saginaw type 2 pump is also going to be available, as well as a fully adjustable Alt bracket. All in stainless steel for those that want shinny without the hassel of aluminum or cheap chrome.

For those that may need the right parts, dampers are readily available new for about $80, and a 55-67 short pump SBC water pump pulley can be used for the water pump.

You won't need 3 hands to adust anything, and they aren't so rube goldberg like some of the stuff out there that block off all the air thats trying to get around the engine.

Factory A/C setups for the 250/292 exist for both the A-6 and R-4 style compressors. Neither is of any use to you if you are planning on running a Sanden 508 compressor, so guys, don't waste your time on it...

Anybody got pictures to share. I'd like to see what they look like, whatever your setup.

That was my problem couldn't find......... besides I didn't want to move the Alt........; I figured out if I was going to have AC I would have to make my own, so I did. :D

Sorry, no closeup pics, but the compressor fits nicely above the alternator, the drive pulley welded onto the front of the ones already on the fan. Short loop belt, no idler....................

I live in Vegas but took mine off. AC didn't look right, rather deal with the heat. Mine looked custom, it had the Sears aftermarket unit when I got my 66 from original owner. Saved them just in case.
