just got back from colorado in the falcon monday morning and she's wanting to run hot now. i changed the thermostat before i left, water pump is about a year old, flushed the system yesterday, and she is still running hot. she never ran this hot last year. what do you guys think? radiator needs to be replaced? ran cool without a shroud!!!
Not an expert by any means, but if its the stock rad, mabey it needs cleaned out or replaced. Flushing could have shaken some block treats loose that ended up in the cooling area. The worst case is head gasket issues. If you replaced the thermostat with the stock type temp, i.e. 180, cant imagine that producing trouble. How hot? Boil over hot, or gee, that seems higher? I know, someone may think its the guage.
it reads between the middle line and H driving down the road in the neighborhood. brought it back home before blowing something up. it calls for a 195 thermostat and i put in a 180.
You changed the thermostat before you left seems to be a clue. Was there a reason for that or precaution? Absolutely sure you put it in correctly? "Burp" the cooling system after install? Correct coolant mixture? I'd pull the new thermostat and do the boiling water check to make sure it opens all the way. Also double check hoses to make sure none have collapsed. My 2 cents...
