As much as I like these trucks that is one sweet Galaxie! Tough choice, must suck to be you. ;) I'd probably trade then sell the Bel Air and get another truck for a DD. The truck would have to have a camper though 'cause I'd be needing someplace to sleep. "Fortunately"...... I don't have your dilemna.

  16. Don't sell it keep your truck. You will regret it! Everyone told me not to sell my 6-4 cause I would regret it. What happened I sold it and I regret it. I have not had a vehicle to drive in 8 months. I got rid of the truck a year ago. I got rid of the impala that I got in a trade from the 64. Now I have 2 projects that seem to never be on the road haha.

I'd love to know as well, but it looks like it might be a scan of an original picture or postcard based on the creases and pin holes.

I originally found and saved that photo from here:
    http://rides.webshots.com/album/548774380HaTDDC
what is interesting, is it appears to be different from the one posted above...not as clear, no tack holes....
but I think from the webshots link you can buy a print?

Ok i just got this truck in a deal.Forgive me for being so dumb on torque bar(spring bar)? tfor trucks that have those set ups?
i have seen a few air baged up front 61s what happens to the front torque bar(spring bar)?Do you just get rid of it and use the air spring instead?
Also, i would like to know the easiest way but safe way to do the rear...some people i have talked to say just remove the rear coil spring and reaplce with air springs. Is this so?Any pics of the process?
    Here is my clunker...

You should probably start a new thread for this question as this is for posting pics- moderators may tell you that but since you asked...

The best thing you can do for the front is to replace the torsion bars with a later crossmemeber and air springs. You will get extremely low because the real early truck frames swing up in the front so it should get you a 1.5" better drop than someone with say a '64-'66. If you go '72-'87 this will also allow you to put disc brakes on it. If you want to keep the 6 luggers, CPP makes them in disc. Either way control arms are about the same and should work from any of those years.

As for the rear. I mounted my bags directly to my trailing arms. I have not put a notch in yet but when I do, I may need to move them and make a bracket (or just use a lowering block instead).

Hope this helps (I have no pics of your trucks set-up) Good Luck man and keep us posted.

Well, here's my daily-driven Suburban, finally.
It's a '62, but has a '60 4-headlight grill and '61 hood now, so I'm just gonna call it a '61 from here on out so I don't have to keep explaining it to people.
You can see the horrible hood alignment in the camping/deer camp pic. (Boy Wonder and I camp out of it for opening weekend every year). The hood blew open at 70mph and was killed. Besides the crease across the center where it hit the roof overhang above the windshield, the inner structure that the springs bolt to was twisted bad and hyper-extended. Hood's junk.
I just replaced it with the '61 hood last month.
I also mounted a factory driver's side spot light since then, and just scored a factory passenger side spot, so I'll have twin spots. I also had a good friend just give me a set of NOS California mirrors for it. Don't know how they'll look, but he's a VERY good friend, and I'll mount the mirrors on there based on that alone.
It's gone to Martinsville Virginia, Joplin (HAMB drags), Billetproof FL twice, West Palm Beach FL a third trip, and just got back from a 3K mile round trip to Indy, Michigan and Ohio. The crate engine has almost 30K miles on it in a little over two years.
I'm gonna replace the front end with the later style, add sway bars, lower it a bit and start paint and body work next. Mechanically, it's got a new engine, 4spd OD manual trans, new Dana 44, new radiator, dual reservoir master cylinder conversion with self-adjust brum brake upgrade, and a new wiring harness from American AutoWire. I've got some perfect doors, decent front fenders, mint inner fenders, and a lift gate/tail gate assembly for it, along with the factory front and full-width rear back seats.
It's the only vehicle I own that runs, so it's a true daily driver. My wife's car is a '61 Corvair Lakewood, and that's her only car. (Looks like someone washed the Suburban in hot water and shrunk the hell out of it!)

    -Brad
