Hey Guys, the farther I get with my car the more problems I keep finding. I am getting so close to dropping the new 235 into my 50 and found out that the previous owner never bothered to re-install the mid mounts back on the bellhouse. Meaning the only mouts were the trans and the 2 front motor mounts....no wonder that thing shook like a muther!!! Anyhow I'm trying to at least get this thing back on the road safely, and my new motor in it's new home, so I need to find a set of the steel mounting brackets for the trans/mid mount. I checked Chevs of the 40's and broke down and even checked the auctions site of evil and no luck!!! Does anybody know who might repop or sell these pieces, or know of anybody doing an engine swap that does not need these anymore??? Thanks for the help, hopefully this will be the end of some of the suprises!! This is a pic of the pieces I need!!!!
the auction site of evil? really? I see nothing evil with a worldwide site full of old car parts. keep looking. look at least twice a week. email people who are parting out 49-52's and email them as most people don't part cars out completely and will toss parts out because they are too stupid to know someone will buy just about everything from these cars.
Hey Todd I am using the mount under the timing cover for the front mount, these are the mid mounts, right arouns the bellhousing. It is supposed to cut vibration, and be a type of link between the front mount and the rear trans mount...keeping the motor from twisting too much....unless I am completey wrong??? Please let me know.
I ended up making some out of a pair of leaf spring shackles. Cut them in half, and drilled the rubber bushed end to fit the bellhousing, and the link end welded a bracket to attach to the frame. Not stock, but plenty strong enough to hold up that heavy inline. YMMV... ...dawg
I'll ask one of the local fellas if he has some. He had a '54 custom that wasn't using mid mounts and he never throws anything away.
I hope to find a set, as I do not own a welder and my fab skills are not so hot...I keep trying but I haven't gotten very far. Besides I just got the new pieces yesterday (rubber mounts) and would like to keep this simple as possible. Any good leads or ideas would be great & thanks again!!!
