While we are happy to have you here, we'd like to know who we're talkin to?! How'd you find us, what's you old car background (is this your first or twenty-first)?

To answer your question, if it runs keep the six until you figure out if it suits your driving needs. The bigger flatties 262 to 308 from Hudson were decent motors! Is it a 3-speed? O/D or no?

    I do love a good Hudson ...

Sounds like it could use a valve job at least! Ha
Is the head aluminum or one of the cast iron ones? If it's aluminum is it intact? Not cracked/rotted?
Do you know what displacement the engine you have is? Single/dual carb version?

A 3-speed ****** is OK. If it was me, I'd be doing some indepth lookin' at what is not going to work with the stock engine. If it's not seized/turns over it may be worth fixing.

Are you a member of the Hudson-Es***-Terraplane Club? Check out HET club and cl***iccar.com hudson forum, lots of good information. I am restoring my '50 Hudson Commodore at the moment. I am keeping the Hudson stock inline 6 - 262cu engine but I am doing lots of upgrades. I plan to pull a "canned ham" trailer with it and use if as my daily driver.

Hmmm, again if it was me I'd be leavin' the top alone! If I was really bothered by the fact that it is a 4-door, I might be tempted to rework the 4 doors into two. However, the Hudson Pacemaker in 4-door configuration is one of only two cars that I can tolerate as a 4-door! The other would be the '49-'51 Merc!
I think if it's a clean car, I'd be very happy with it as is!

When do we get to see pics? I lean towards keeping it stock both body and engine. Only use the improvements they made back in the day like picking up an aluminum head and converting it to dual carb (Twin-H) which will boost the h.p... and they still hold racing records today. As far as body, the stepdowns had a nice roofline already, which can be enhanced with a sunvisor.

I second "Landflyer". The HET club is a great resource for knowledge and parts. The Cl***icCar.com Hudson forum does have a Street Rod section with a couple awesome projects you can get some ideas from if you decide to customize.

Hey, I drive an all original 50 Hudson pacemaker as well. It has the original 232 I6 engine. For starters i would try to get your 6 running, these are stout little engines and parts are pretty readily available. I have quite a few parts, or could at least direct you to sources. Let me know what you need. The HET club mentioned above is pretty good, tons of die-hard Hudson fans who will help you out. Check out the cl***icar.com forum mentioned above.

If you think the back window on the Pacemaker is huge, be glad you didn't get a Commodore. Those are BIG rear windows... :)

Oh yeah, could probably get some OE seats, but distance would be an issue.

    Lets see some pics.
