Help me with the color, I'm ready!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldschool66, Jun 24, 2010.

  1. I know this was just asked by someone else here but I would like to get my 29 photoshopped for color if someone would be so kind. I'm looking to see it in the following colors,

    Gloss black

    Bright red

    Silver

    Dark charcoal met.

All with the top as is or possibly Burgandy on the silver one

Or................. any suggestions? I'm open to any suggestions. The interior is gray, and yes I can change the wheel color.

    Thanks in advance.

    Don

High gloss black cherry:cool: or any thing high gloss

  5. There are only two colors for a hot rod; black or ugly.

That said red is also a good option. But I would lean towards a deep dark red close to burgundy.

  6. I looked at a G M color chip of that color. I like it alot. Almost black but a real deep almost red wine tint to it. I kinda agree with the others about red and black being a bit played out. I'd like to see it in silver or a tarnished gray color for comparison. Thanks

No not copper, Copper is played, it wont look good on that body shape and is a pincher to paint, Lexus has a really nice deep red that is sharp looking, too much bright red out there,If you like the copper olds had anice bronze on a 72 cutl*** and pontiac had a nice gold on a 66 catalina.

    Black with the top White.

  18. Thanks Kiwi, I hope so to but it doesn't look to good so far. I'm leaning toward a black cherry or black metallic of some kind. I think the silver is out to, I like the darker colors. I've built quite a few hot rods and never had this problem before, I always knew the color before I started on the other ones. Maybe I'll just leave it and drive the **** out of it.

soory, but you can't go wrong with black. also think about a real dark wine color, maroon.

  20. I'd like to see that photoshopped, that may look nice. I'd do the wheels black then to.

Why is the grill 2" above the cowl? Looks like the hood is going up hill from the cowl to the grill.
That car would look good white with some subtle pinstripe.

    fenders one olor body anothr

    and black is so played

anotgher thing that is kool is clear coated bare metal

  23. Yeah, black met. , dark cherry, both at the top of my list. I hope to see some samples by tomorow morning.

  24. I'm in the process of fixing that. I used a couple of rubber biscuits under the radiator and it raised it about 1 inch. I'll remove those and use the body welt I had under it before. The Grille shell will also adjust down about 1/2 inch on the radiator, which should bring it all back into the right stance like it was before I thought I could "improve" it. Spent two nights working on it and it wound up looking like someone broke its nose. It's all apart now. I like white, maybe if someone photoshops it for me we can see it in white. For some reason no one seems to want to do it for me.

  25. Who's car is it? Please yourself. To be HAMB freindly it must be "played out", or something that's been done many times before = traditional. My .02

  27. I knew sooner or later I was gonna get the "who's car is it" and you are right, I've had 3 black cars, a 37 Chevy PU, a 47 Ford coupe, and a 32 PU. A yellow 40 Chevy, a couple in red, and I was sure when I started this one it was gonna be satin black. This may be my last build ( hope not ) and maybe thats why I'm being a ***** on the color, maybe it's because when I did all the rest of them it was before photoshop was around, or even computers for that matter. I painted my 40 Chevy Chrome Yellow in my driveway in 1980 something. The paint, primer, hardener, & reducer for the whole job was about $ 160.00. I called NAPA for the material for this and it was pushing $ 700.00. Back in the 80s I had the money, I'm retired now and although I have the money to do it, it's not so easy to replenish the checking account. So I thought I'd try to take a virtual tour first. You know, take advantage of all this technology so to speak. Maybe no one will help me out and I'll stay with the original plan. Thanks for your response, I value all the input. ( well almost all )

  28. I agree that you should use all the tools available to make a good pick. I'm just saying...if it makes your eye happy, then it's the right color. Good luck on your pick. Peace.

  29. Thanks Marty, I'll post some pics when I'm done.
