Im just having a set of head rebuilt for my 348 but its a truck motor and i just found a set of heads for a p***enger car, is it worth spending the extra doh on the p***enger car heads and try to run tri power?
Just don't tell the block that they're p*** heads... Seriously, the engine doesn't care what the castings are too much on that particular engine. Look at the valve sizes. If they're the same save your money, or use the set with the biggest valves. 348 truck...are they like the Mark IV BBC as in taller decks?
According to the guy that helped me when I built mine you have to make sure the heads and blocks are compatable. There were apparently some early heads and blocks that won't match up with the later blocks and heads?
What are the last 3 or 4 digits of the casting numbers? There isn't much difference in p*** or truck heads that both have 1.94 intake valves except the truck heads have valve rotators that need to be eliminated from performance applications.
The truck heads have a relief cut in them and they drop the compression a little (seems like .20 or so). At least the 409 truck heads do. So it depends on your what compression ratio your pistons are. You can put bigger valves in either head. Larry T
my motors a 61-62 truck motor and the heads i found are p*** car for a 58 chevy ther already rebuilt for 600 bucks the my stock truck heads will cost like 3 or more to rebuild is there much as a diffrence?
Most 58 p*** car heads did not have provision for spark plug cooling so the coolant p***ages in your block would allow all the coolant to leak out, I believe. Ask over at 348-409.com , you'll get a more complete answer.
I would stay away from '58 heads whether car or truck due to the lack of cooling around the spark plugs and the coolant p***ages are slightly different. Your engine will run hot without matching the coolant p***ages. Piston selection will also be important with the truck heads combustion chamber relief.
Its a stock engine, i bought this motor cause it only had 30,000 miles and it was cheap enuff, but didnt run good so i pulled the heads i can tell the were gonna need a rebuild
THESE ARE THE 58 CHEVY HEADS THAT IM TALKING ABOUT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1958...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
find a good set of 333 heads, thay are good for truck or car applications,Id also stay away from anything from 58,blocks included,Its not a good deal for 600.00,Id rather have a little more in a set of 333's or 379 car heads personally..
The E-bay heads are the early 58 heads and they won't work on a later block unless you want to plug the extra coolant p***ages in your block. Lots of work to make it an inferior design. Here's what the extra p***ages look like. Larry T
Put 409 heads on it. I got an extra set of 409/425hp heads complete need a valve job. I also have the dual quad setup with the air cleaner. I do not have the intake though.
