ZMAN thanks for the link to this I had heard rumor but knew none of the details.[/QUOTE]

I didn't dig much further but I also remember a couple other incidents that were strikingly similar besides the Patrick's fiasco. Which I'm sorry but if I was Bill I would've called up Patrick's and told them instead of snaking it out from underneath them as Speedway was one of Patrick's customers. That would've been the stand up thing to do. It's funny what you can find in the archives of the HAMB.

Your opinions are just as valid as the rest of ours, if thats true why do you lash out at everyone else that disagrees with you?

If your opinions are as valid and equal to others, and in the other speedway thread you called us "small minded" and "***holes", whats that make you?

Your defense of greedy bill is very much similar to saying,,, I know he ****ed this guy, and he ****ed that guy, and that guy over there, and the guy standing next to him, but he never ****ed me so he's an ok guy.

You have every right to defend him, if he's been good to you, Groovy, but dont be slamming us that have had issues with him for saying so.

Used the link provided and read every post on the entire thread...........all those posts say mostly what all of us have said in this and the other recent debate on this subject. Seems some people saw it your way, some saw it my way.

The most interesting thing is, it appears that the "Tardel thing" has been greatly exaggerated in importance. From the posts I read, Mr Tardel really wasn't all that interested in "selling" his stuff and at least one poster indicated that the retainer in question wasn't a Tardel invention in the first place. That tidbit was conveniently ignored then and now. You may recall, this fellow said he had a 1935 Ford Catalog that showed the retainers available as an accessory back then. If that is true, and no one disputed it in subsequent posts, then how was Mr. Tardel 'ripped off"?

The main thing I learned is that nothing changes and if I had read that thread previously, I wouldn't have bothered to comment on this one.

Never met "Bill" but the pumps are good. Mine came with a tag in the box from a company called "Cat" something or other, and they were from the states. (or at least the tag was....)
I looked into Skip's pumps, but He didn't replace the pullies on a rebuild and mine were shot. Shipping back and fourth to Florida from Canada was going to cost almost as much as the pumps were to buy from Speedway.
The budget won out in the end.

I wonder how many of you out there even have a clue as to how the speed equipment industry operated back in the fifties and sixties. I wrote installation instructions for installing brand X headers and six months later, brand Y headers came with a set of installation instructions complete with my typos! Knocking off compe***ors products in this business is almost "traditional". The greed factor of the originator of a product almost always opens the door for compe***ion. I have no idea what Tardel was selling his axle clips for. However, if he was selling retail AND wholesale, he left the door wide open for compe***ion.

Cal Custom was one of the first accessory companies to go off shore for production and also one of the pioneers in dumping speed shops and marketing through Pep Boys. Yet, some of you guys out there would give your left nut for some Cal Custom SBC finned valve covers.

If there had been a HAMB in the late fifties, would we see posts about how evil Els Lohn was for knocking off Moon's tanks? Or, which came first, Offy fuel distribution blocks or Moon's?

You guys need to get a grip out there and be thankful that compe***ion is keeping prices in line.

Finally, here's a shot of the Speedway retainers on my Zipper. I had absolutely no idea Tardel was selling them. Was Tardel lax in promoting his product? Maybe.

I use V8 water pumps built by Harry Fry with ceramic bearings and machined impellers.

I am not defending anything that Speedway or who any other manufacturer of a product has ever done, but the one thing that has been failed to be mentioned is that anyone is free to copy another product if it is not protected by a patent. If there is a patented product, then that patent lasts for 17 years, then it becomes public domain and anyone can copy it without having to pay royalties to the original patent holder.

The copy of the Stromberg 97 carb is an equally bad example as described above. Anyone can produce their own copy of a 97 carb.

As far as stuff being made in China, people need to wake up and realize that most all manufacturing is now done in the far eastern countries like China, Taiwan, Korea, and India. Very little is manufactured in the US anymore because of corporate greed. Everything has been sent off shore try to save a buck and boost profits.

If a company does not have the money to protect their invention by safe guarding it with patent rights, then that company should not produce a good product and expect someone else not to take their idea. Unfortunate as it may be, that is the way the business world works.

I heard a rumor that the next big promotion was going to be free egg rolls with every order.

your as blind as they come but your blind by choice and nobodies going to change that but the fact is that Speedway has been ripping off American Hotrod Companies and Inventors for many years.

    So go ahead,
look the other way and continue to support offshore labor and/or junk manufacturers thru your choice of a very dishonest American businessman and company.

    Just like clockwork

    .

If you won't or don't care to talk or ask Vern, Steve, Clive, Patrick about their dealings with (being baltantly ripped off by) speedway motors, what makes you think I or anyone would care to talk to you about your business or lack thereof?

I think that all your business dealings are based on (quote)

You seem to care enough to take the time to insult honest people here and/or call them out as being mob ruled liars,
But you haven't once asked any of the honest men who's companies have been named a dozen times what they thought of speedy bill.

...You won't be bothered to ask honest businessmen simple questions and
I won't be bothered to inquire of the other -less than honorable businessmen with '34 year old' companies.

Sounds like a fair trade to me.

Bob, he has been given many chances to inquire to many of the good men who have been taken in by speedway motors and all he can say is it is all just make believe and unfounded bashing.
    Ignorance is bliss

    Very well stated

Do your homework, not every thing about them is true, but the predatory copying of others work rings true, and the Chinese connection is also true. I find his phone people very helpful, but refrain from buying the offshore stuff. It's pretty obvious he only cares about the bucks, if we all bought American products from him, he would soon carry more "honest" products, just for the bucks.
